This movie is nothing but a big ''B'' and a ''S'' all the way.B...s..t all the way.Bad direction and acting all the way.The reason there is 1 star is because of the message and a bit Salman's acting, say 50/50 and 9 stars has to go down for crap.Tabu and supporting characters were crap over acting everywhere.Salman should be more responsible and make good movies that would be looked up by the world, cut this crap, please,I thought we have moved on from the past. It's a really painful watch especially being a huge cinema fan,got bad headaches all the way through.Story wise,it was not bad, execution was utter terrible, music was bad. This movie is an insult to Bollywood and Indian cinema on the whole.
Another instance where a good, potentially great idea of a movie produces an outcome that is not so desirable.A former army officer introduces the idea of being good to random people and instead of a thanks he asks beneficiaries to be good to other people in return (aka Bolywood version of 'pay it forward)'. As said earlier, there is nothing wrong with such a concept but the issue I take is with its cinematic execution.Plenty of talk but little action. We get it, we know what the main character is all about so what is the point of so much repetition of the concept? I did however enjoyed the conflict between the altruist and the corrupt political establishment who do not favour such an idea and are prepared to do all they can to destroy him. The powerlessness of the powerful versus the power of the powerless makes for an intriguing clash. Not a total loss, it is just that it could have been much better.
One thing in India that is a big problem is social responsibility - no one wants to take it upon themselves to do anything. Jai Ho teaches us that a common man has the power to do everything in this world - a great message but it wasn't delivered correctly! Sohail Khan concentrates far too much on action, and not on the little bits of the film. Within the first 10 minutes of the film I could tell I was going to be disappointed. Scenes didn't link together, and after the interval you're pretty much waiting for the cliché Salman topless fight scene. It was all too obvious!Jai Ho rides purely on the star power of Salman Khan. It's his film throughout and he does a brilliant job. However, he needs to do something more challenging. These roles are bread and butter for him and he needs to challenge himself, and give the audience something more interesting. I doubt newcomer Daisy Shah will be around for long. She doesn't really show much acting ability in the film even in some romantic scenes alongside Salman. It's great to see Tabu back in such a pivotal role. She's such a good actress, but she won't obviously get leading female roles anymore, however these types of roles suit her, and she did a fantastic job. Other notable performances were from Danny Denzongpa and Mohnish Bahl. The music is not a superhit, but I really liked it. Jai Ho title track is a fantastic upbeat song and Tumko Toh Aana Hi Tha is beautiful, but what is up with the Photocopy song? It's awful!! Overall Sohail Khan doesn't quite have the luck of direction on his side. He relies purely on Salman, and to be fair Salman has carried the film alone however with such poor direction, it's no surprise that a film that has Salman as the male lead, struggled to achieve much at the box office.
Salman's personality in the movie is pretty much his exact personality in reality, which, in this case, is a good thing. The movie is all about doing good and fits the theme perfectly. For once it's about the message, and not the love story, though I do wish there was more of the love story in it.Just like every other Bollywood movie the action is very over-the-top, but it wouldn't be Bollywood movie if it wasn't. The music is not brilliant, but it is nice. Daisy Shah did very well for her first real roll. If you don't like her acting, her dancing will make up for it. She is an amazing dancer, especially in her first number in the film. Basically, it's a clean, family film, which is hard to come by today. Give it a try. It is worth it.
