After their mother passes away, sisters Nicole and Annie reluctantly return to their childhood home to pay their last respects. While staying overnight in the house, the sisters sense a mysterious presence in their midst: noises startling them in the night, objects moving about, a fallen picture of an unknown woman posed next to their mother. Annie begins experiencing a series of intense and disturbing dreams - visions that lead her to uncover something terrible about her mother's past that is finally revealing itself.

This low budget Horror movie can be descibed in one word: watchable. Right from the start you realize that this movie was done with a low budget, 400k to be exact, and so it had a little bit more than Halloween. Yes, the cult classic, Mr. Michael "Slashergod" Myers, the legend. The Pact will not live up to this expectation ever. But here is the thing. The Pact still can be a lot of fun if you let that guard down and just focus on the story and this slightly eerie atmoshphere that is carried throughout the entire movie. Most of the dialogues were a bit stiff, but when things get intese actress Caity Lotz pulls it off quite well. Funny that the appearance of Mark Steger alone is enough to creep you out. He was a great casting choice! Haley Hudson as the blind "medium"... unfortunately not so much. To me this movie was pretty intense as I first saw it. After rewatching it a lot of the fascination got lost. If you never saw it, definetely see it. Just don't expect the next Halloween.
A-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."The Pact" (R - 2012 - US)Sub-Genre: Paranormal/DisturbingMy Score: 8.0Cast=6 Acting=7 Plot=8 Ending=9 Story=9 Scare=8 Jump=7 F/X=8 Creep=9 Disturb=9As a woman struggles to come to grips with her past in the wake of her mother's death and the disappearance of her sister, an unsettling presence emerges in her childhood home. "Mommy...who's that behind you?" I loved this film...it was a combination of Paranormal and Disturbing horror wrapped in pretty flowered wallpaper. The layers of this film were really good...starting out as basically a haunted house movie. Then slowly pulling on that thread until the movie completely unravels...giving me one of my favorite twists of all time!! In the world of Indie horror, I treated this movie as a gift. Don't wait till Christmas to unwrap this one.
Another low budget film that delivers! Great cast and story. I actually watched it because I wanted to see what Casper was doing in a horror movie, a handsome Hollywood B actor who has been relegated to mainly weak films. This might be one of his best roles! I got to make this comment as well..one thing that makes this film work so good is the house they used for the set.. just perfect. Caty Lotz was stellar as the lead give this movie a chance and avoid all of the bad reviews. This film is scarier than the recent batch of Blumhouse "big" productions!
There is a sequel to this film which has the unimaginative title "The Pact II". That film is not better than its precursor, but the original is definitely worse. Low budget, the action taking place almost entirely in one house, it is difficult to know what to make of it. A young woman - a single mother with a young daughter - a mentally disturbed sister and a recently deceased mother who was far from an ideal parent, then strange things begin happening. Is she being haunted? It's either her or the house, but here's the good news, this is a friendly spirit, or at least one that is not malevolent. The bad news is that there is a genuinely malevolent presence in the house, one that appears to be terrestrial. The film is deliberately slow, attempting to build an atmosphere; this fails miserably. The climax is both unconvincing and implausible, even if you make allowance for the poltergeist. The best it has to offer is our attractive damsel, but even blonde hair and excessive cleavage can't rescue this one.
