Hotshot gambler Jake Green is long on bravado and seriously short of common sense. Rarely is he allowed in any casino because he's a bona fide winner and, in fact, has taken so much money over the years that he's the sole client of his accountant elder brother, Billy. Invited to a private game, Jake is in fear of losing his life.

Guy Ritchie has made a stylish but incoherent film which at times is as fake as Jason Statham's wig and the green screened background.Statham plays Jake Green a gambler who spent some years in solitary confinement and is seeking revenge against casino owner Dorothy Macha (Ray Liotta) who put him in jail.Jake was confined in a prison cell between two others, one was a chess master, the other a con man. They all planned to escape together but they escaped leaving Jake behind. Jake has learned a lot spending time between these two people and has learned of the formula that would bring him success in gambling which it does when he leaves prison. When Jake has a blackout he discovers he only has three days to live when he is approached by two loan sharks Zack (Vincent Pastore) and Avi (André Benjamin.) They offer him protection from a hit-man hired by Macha but in return they want Jake to give them all his money and not to question them why.Jake thinks all this might be a con and then their is the shadowy figure of Sam Gold who many people fear. Is Gold actually Jake or just a figment of his imagination? The film loses the plot by the end, it really is a confusing mess. The film adheres to some Kabbalah principles but it means nothing if you know little about Kabbalah.
I think I saw this when it came out and though - oh - another useless Jason movie.Oh contraire - I held through this - wondering why Ray invested time into it.What many will not get is - what we see in this movie - are not real. For example, I once saw the book for Deliverance - the author on the back said the characters in Deliverance were actually all parts of one persons psyche. Now, did that ever come through with Deliverance ? noHOWEVER in THIS movie, this movie has it's surreal setbacks but at the SAME TIME - it's far more than a passive cinematic venture. You can actually grow from watching this, here is a HINT as to where I'm at with the movie...The neighbors he had in his solitary confinement cell?never existed.A troubled mind will go through great extent to keep itself alive. This movie is worth rewatching, the symbolization of the little girl is still an open book for me.Easily one of the most complex intellectual offerings I've ever encountered. If you are going through your 19th nervous breakdown, this movie is FOR YOU!
Very, very clever! Takes a bit to follow but when you get it, which you will, it's an amazing piece of filmography. Critic reviews are low, I understand why, because it's hard to follow and 'relate' to but if you understand it, totally worth watching; I'd even watch it again. I'm a huge fan of Statham and thought in the beginning that the film didn't quite suit his style but when I got into it I realised I was so wrong. I couldn't think of a better actor to play his part. It's definitely a confusing film watching it but it's one of those where you watch it not quite putting the pieces to together and understanding what's going on entirely but it falls completely into place at the end. So worth watching
"Revolver" is a French/British crime thriller from over 10 years ago written and directed by Madonna's ex-husband Guy Ritchie. He got help from Luc Besson with the script and I usually like Besson. Not so much here though. The film attempts to be action packed and gritty from start to finish, but it rarely offers anything of substance. The characters are supposed to be dark and evil, but in my opinion they always look as if they were intended this way without ever actually being like that. It especially applies to Ray Liotta here. This film is also one of the singers' from Outkast attempt to be taken seriously as an actor. I found him forgettable and certainly prefer his work in the field of music. Now this is quite a bad judgment, but the only somewhat memorable aspect from this film is to see Jason Statham, who plays the lead actor, with long heir and a beard. The plot is completely uninteresting from start to finish and my rating may have been closer to one star out of five than on three stars. In the defense of the film, it needs to be said that the genre is not really my favorite, so films with this background have to be really good to catch my interest and, more importantly, keep it throughout the entire film. It is also way too long in my opinion, 95 minutes may may have been totally enough. A disappointing watch. No memorable scenes or characters. Not recommended.
