A rape victim is exacting revenge on her aggressors in a small town outside San Francisco. "Dirty" Harry Callahan, on suspension for angering his superiors (again), is assigned to the case. Once again Clint Eastwood brings on the guns, the action and most of all? the one liners in the 4th film of the Dirty Harry series 'Sudden Impact' i mean what is there to say that hasn't been said? This movie is just amazing, it's action packed, it's full of suspense and thriller and just never stops having you at the edge of your seat. If you loved the previous installments you're going to love this one as well, trust me pal. (10/10)

The Dirty Harry series will always have a special place in my heart – just because it's so darned cool. Clint Eastwood lives and breathes the role of the unorthodox cop, and by the time of this third sequel – the fourth and penultimate movie in the long-running franchise – he shows no signs of flagging or losing enthusiasm for his subject matter, directing as well as starring as the tough cop. This has got to be the most entertaining Dirty Harry since the first movie. The series makes a fine segue from late '70s grittiness to early '80s flashiness, retaining the same hard edge that made the early films so successful. Here, Harry is once again arguing with his superiors, who this time send him on an enforced holiday to a little town where he begins to track down a serial killer. Along with that, the usual hoodlums and gangsters are gunning for our hero, leading to a literally action-packed movie in which we watch Harry chase a thug through the streets in an old people's bus (a highlight), have shoot-outs with his trusty sidepiece, and even deliver another famous line – this time, it's the "make my day" one.The main thrust of the story is about Eastwood's one time partner, Sondra Locke, as we follow her delivering her own brand of justice against a gang of men who once gang-raped her and her sister. It's a violent chronicle, exposing the psychology of such a crime, and it works, providing a fitting parallel to Harry's own character. The cast are at the top of their game here, with nobody putting a foot wrong, from the icy, slightly alien Locke, to Paul Drake as a truly loathsome baddie. There are also a ton of great character actors filling out supporting roles, like Bradford Dillman, Pat Hingle, and in particular Albert Popwell, who is fine as Harry's partner. Add in some great laughs in the form of a bad-mannered dog and you have a great film that just gets better as time goes by.

This review contains spoilersSudden Impact (1983) is the fourth film in the Dirty Harry franchise made famous by the film's director/star Clint Eastwood who portrays S.F. Police Inspector Harry Callahan. Callahan is a policeman motivated more by justice than the law, as such, he routinely resorts to extreme violence and is the target of retribution attempts. The combination causes great mayhem and friction between Inspector Callahan and his superiors. When a murder victim is traced back to small San Paulo, CA, Inspector Callahan is send to do background research on the victim to get him away from the city for a while. There he crosses paths with Jennifer Spencer, a troubled artist, and discovers that murders of the same MO are now occurring in San Paulo. This is overall a pretty good film and delivers on all the basic action film promises. However on one level, the themes and level of violence taken on by the film demand that it be seen as more than just popcorn fare. When I began to take this film too seriously I began to have problems. The violence becomes too personal and the story quite painful to view.Let's just break this film down by the numbers and let the chips fall where they may: A) Plot -- a tight and solid story free from apparent, first-viewing holes, and a believable arc -- 8 B) Characters -- not fully developed in any instance, archetypes abound and the portrayal of the black and lesbian characters was stereotypical -- 4 C) Acting -- Clint Eastwood and Sandra Locke deliver good performances and round out the script as much as possible -- 7 D) Script -- the original screenplay for this film is typical Dirty Harry fare, but satisfying -- 6 E) Direction -- Eastwood proves the sharpness of his eye and delivers another well directed film here. The carousel sequence, near the conclusion, proves the case, this could have easily fallen over into surrealistic parody, but is handled by a master working with his cinematographer and editor to achieve a great effect -- 7 F) Cinematography -- Artfully shot when desired, gritty when called for, a good job -- 7 G) Editing -- A good job of standard editing wherein the shot are neither too long, too short, or cut together jarringly except for effect. When effects are desired for mood the editing complements it quite well - 7 H) Production Design -- A good effort in a simple task -- 7 I) Costume Design -- Off the rack look, no memorable hero costuming, even for villains -- 5 J) Stunts -- Driving the burning car was impressive -- 8 K) Special & Visual Effects -- not much too see: N/A L) Music -- 6 M) Sound -- 7 N) Entertainment Value -- 7 Average 6.587 -- call it 7 of ten stars, pop lots of corn and try not to take it too seriously. This film features adult situations, adult language, alcohol and drug use, graphic violence including execution-style killings, violence against women including rape.

Part 4 in the Dirty Harry franchise and for me it was better than part 3 The Enforcer but it didn't satisfy me on all ways. The first part is the best part because there we do have the macho Callahan killing everybody who is in his way. Naturally it doesn't match up the way the police sees it so vacation is on his way but there's a killer out there. So the second part of the flick Callahan turns into a smoother person who is even attracted to a lady not knowing who she really is. And it is that part that takes too long. I can't say who she really is but some scene's are too long. And it shows because it clocks in at almost 2 hours, a bit too long. if you can sit through the revenge part and wait until the final it's were Callahan becomes dirty again. Better than part 3 but should have been a 90 minutes flick.Gore 0/5 Nudity 0,5/5 Effects 1/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5
