Synopsis
Documentary series about Albert Kahn's photographic Archive of the Planet. For a quarter of a century, Kahn supplied a team of photographers with the world's first colour camera system and dispatched them across the globe. Their films and 72,000 photographs offer a unique insight into the formative years of the 20th Century.
Episode 5 : The Civilian's Story

In The Civilians' Story, viewers see harrowing images of the many French towns that were razed, their churches and civic buildings destroyed to leave a desolate, almost lunar landscape. The programme witnesses some of the individual acts of quiet heroism by the nurses and doctors who tended the wounded, and sees the relief and sheer joy of the Armistice Day celebrations.

Episode 1 : A Vision of the World

This episode details the origins of the project with fascinating background to the invention of the autochrome system, and introduces the archive's creator, Albert Kahn. It also tells the story of two incredible journeys undertaken in 1913: one by Auguste Léon to London and Cornwall, the other by the project's only female photographer, Marguerite Mespoulet, who travelled along the west coast of Ireland.

Camping on a budget, kayaking with friends, and hiking mountains with safety cables are examples of Aiello's hobbies that are documented for viewers to see. Each half hour episode takes viewers to a location off the beaten path, with directions on exactly how to get there. With summer and winter vacations highlighted, Motion is produced with the average outdoorsmen in mind. Aiello narrates throughout, providing an inside look into his climbing, hiking, photography, and general fitness abilities.
