Siblings Milo Dean (Bill Hader) and Maggie Dean (Kristen Wiig) both reunite after they attempt to commit suicide on the same day. Maggie brings Milo from his hometown in LA back to New York (which is Maggie's hometown and Milo's original hometown) in order to look after him. Maggie and Milo have not spoken for 10 years and clearly they have a lot to catch up on, but what exactly do they learn about each other from this reunion?? When the film ended I thought to myself 'Was there really any story here'? My answer to this question was 'Not Really'. The second thing I asked myself was 'Did this work well as a dual character study and show a believable relationship between brother and sister'? My answer to this question was 'Yes for the most part' and that's why a film like The Skeleton Twins works so well despite the fact that it doesn't have much of a story in the conventional sense. The film mainly focuses on the fraught and strained relationship between two siblings; Milo's flaws are more obvious; he's socially awkward and as a result isn't great at talking to people or in social situations - I was wondering if he maybe had some form of autism or Aspergers (this is never established and these are merely my assumptions, but these thoughts were running through my mind anyway). As Milo, Hader also takes on the most complex character in the film and to his credit I felt he really nailed his part - the writing is partly to thank for this working, but Hader brings that little bit extra to the table by giving his character a sympathetic feel despite him having some obnoxious tendencies. It's interesting that Maggie is seen as the stronger and more 'normal' of the siblings at the start, but as the picture delves deeper into her life we realise that she is just as flawed as Milo himself. I think the point of the film was to get each sibling to open their eyes (not only to their own problems, but to their respective siblings problems). Initially, they are quick to pick up upon the other's problems, but towards the end they also start to acknowledge their own problems. It's perhaps easier for Maggie to be seen in a less sympathetic light than Milo - she's essentially portrayed as a 'Tart', but to me the deeper subtext points to both of the siblings merely wanting to be loved and this is something that is touched upon throughout the film for both siblings. This film is very well-written, but as mentioned good performances complement good writing and that's where Wiig and Hader both come into their own. Their performances are so good and so natural that I actually felt like I was watching a real-life brother and sister on screen. Hader was arguably the stronger of the two, but Wiig was certainly good as well. Wilson is in this film as well, but sadly he isn't given as much to do (his role is underwritten so I blame the writers for this rather than him). There are a couple of flaws to this picture; it is a tad glum and depressing which does make it a difficult film to watch at times - although this is broken up at times by some funny moments - Milo and Maggie's impromptu duet of Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now By Starship. Yes it seemed rather random, but it was unexpected and did make me laugh. The picture is also a tad repetitive as well. The film also never really explains why the siblings haven't talked for 10 years? Although it's clear that what happened between Milo and his teacher had caused some friction between the siblings so maybe that was the reason.Undoubtedly The Skeleton Twins won't be a film for everyone and those who are looking for a cohesive narrative/story are probably best off watching something else. However, if character studies are of interest to you then The Skeleton Twins is certainly a film that shouldn't be overlooked.

After the beautiful 'Hateship Loveship', I expected this one for Kristen Wiig. It was a brother-sister relationship theme. The main characters are twins and they have lots of common. The story begins when they meet for the first time after the ten years of no connection. The circumstance was strange as they both were depressed who attempt for a self kill. That does not end successfully, instead narration commence for us where they share each others memory of the past by trying to shape up the present life. But still the old habits won't let them alone as they encounter life changing decisions by the end of the story.Kind of a rare movie, all about the twins' bonding told in a humorous way, mostly. Mistakes are the essence of the script. The fall and rise were cleverly constructed throughout around those two characters. The cast was the plus point. Since it was about twins, Wiig and Hader are perfectly fit for their respective roles. As for Bill Hader, I've never seen he donned in a higher ranked role like this. He was always been a co-star and in this film he's one of the leads. Everybody gets their time right like awesome Timothy Spall in 'Mr. Turner'.In this movie, these two lead performers were absolutely spot on. But the lack of pace is a challenge. If you pass through it successfully, you would get a nice entertainment. If not, the movie would be dull, pale, even it could be worse film of the year for you. Anyway, still it falls short to be an excellent film, I consider it to be a just good movie. Worth a watch, but the movie won't stay in your memory for so long.6.5/10

The movie starts with fraternal twins Twinkie and Bozo (my attempt to offset this film's humor anti-matter) deciding to end it all. Their lives don't work and they've tried nothing and they're all out of ideas, so, death seems like the thing to do. And probably there's nothing good on TV either. please please please let these whining, unfunny, unself-aware pointless wastes of oxygen kill themselves! OMG! after seeing this uninspired, torpid trip through a metaphorical Mohave desert of middle class American mental masturbation and mores, I UNDERSTOOD WHY PEOPLE WANT TO JOIN A RADICAL Islamic CULTS AND GO ALL JIHAD ON OUR ASSES! If this was written by a 13 year old whose only reading material was sub-par 'Twilight' rip offs, and directed by the goth reincarnation of Sylvia Plath then, OK, I would understand. it would still suck, but I would understand why. Sadly it wasn't and so, consequently, IT JUST PLAIN SUCKS!

Well done to the Saturday Night Livers Kirsten Wigg and Bill Hader, they were brilliant. I say it was hard for both to actually be serious because they have been in so much comedy shows and movie's.I found it sad that the twins were apart for 10 long years and Maggie's marriage fell apart. I was so gutted for her. Also the fact she accidentally forgot about the fish and they were left for dead, it was even more heartbreaking! I suggest people who love fish, don't watch this movie!I felt so sorry for Bill Hader's character for not having luck to find true love. He was better off without that married man because really, he didn't want to get involved with him ever again. At least, the twins have each other and who knows what will be around the corner for them!
