Supreme Performances by SRK & Manisha Koirala.. After few minutes into the movie, I never felt that this is SRK and Manisha Koirala, who are acting there in Sub Zero temperature. This is SRK's best work till date. No one in bollywood could have played this part with such an obsession like SRK did. Not for a second, i thought this is SRK. I was so involved in his character and that was possible only and only because of SRK. Manisha Koirala has done complete justice to her role of Meghana. Just watch her emote in every sequence of this movie. Its really sad to see that she is not getting good roles now a days. What a waste of such a brilliant actress. Both the actors deserved an award, but there used to be a rule in bollywood(and still is??)that if the movie is a success, the even the worst actors can get best actor's award.Just because Indians were not ready for such an intelligent movie, this movie was a disaster at the Indian Box Office. But, this is a Masterpiece which grows over you with every scene of it.

Before I watch this movie I went to of Dil Se.I did not want to read the plot but suddenly see the last words and knew the end. After that I read full of the plot and understand everything. Then I downloaded Dil Se and watched the first and last scene and the first and the last song (Chaiyya Chaiyya and Jiya Jale). After a few months I decided to watch movie.I taught that there is no surprise for me now but it was!at the first, the music.I watched Kuch Kuch Hota Hai before Dil Se and I was sure that music of KKHH is the best in 1998 Hindi movies and Filmfare Awards make some mistakes that gave the award foe best music and best lyrics to Dil Se.But after I watched Dil Se,I taught the music of Dil Se was better than KKHH.the lyrics of Dil Se Re was better than Chaiyya Chaiyya but I do not know why it did not nominate for best lyrics.Although, lyrics of KKHH(song) was better.A.R.Rehman is a great music director.I think after The Slumdog millionaire and Lagaan it is his best work.Dil Se has special songs that you can not find like them in other movies.Even It was hard to perform almost all of the songs.(Except E Ajnabee). In Chaiyya Chaiyya SRk dances on the top of train that it was really dangerous.Farah Khanٌs choreography is amazing and one of her best. There is no song and dance like that.Dil Se Re and Satrangi Re are different by the other songs in their kind.I loved Dil Se Re.Jiya Jale is great.I surprised with Manisha Koirala. It is her second movie that i watched.the first one was "Gupt" but I impressed with Kajol and did not pay attention to Manisha.I really like to watch her other movies like Company and Akele Hum Akele Tum. She is great in emotional scenes, songs, drama scenes. She makes Meghna completely understandable.Preity Zint is one of my favorite actresses and i pleased by her good performance.SRK is great too.I knew the story before watch but When i read it for the first time,I really surprised. specially by the end.The dialogues are good.sometimes comedy and sometimes romantic.sometimes social and sometimes sad.The last scene is excellent and the last dialogues by SRK are the some of the most romantic dialogues in the movie.Cinematography is brilliant and fantasticBut the awards was very cruel by Dil Se.It did not nominate for best film. And except FilmFare none of the awards paid attention to music, cinematography, performances, choreography, lyrics and direction.A great romance drama politic movie that you never forget the music. 10/10

One of the most stylish and substantially crafted movies of last century. When some great names in the industry put up their efforts together, we got to see a profligately awesome cine experience. Moreover a movie "Dil Se" is a poem. Pure blend of music and romance which explains seven various phases of Love. Happened to see it again last night for "N"th time yet it had the freshness. Like previous times, I really relished each and every moment of the movie this time too. Everyone in this forum knows the wave created by "Dil Se" among Indian youths when it released in 1998.Now, Coming to the direction and another technical aspects of the movie. Manirathnam is so known for his technical brilliance and flabbergasting directional suaveness and yeah, he did not disappoint anyone. It was absolutely an enchanting experience for me to go through this wonderfully fabricated movie once again. Like his previous ventures "Roja" and "Bombay" this movie also depicts human relationships against a background of Indian politics and military. Dil Se was shot in Himachal, Kashmir, Assam, Delhi, Kerala, and other parts of India and Bhutan over a period of 55 days and its so much evident that how much strain he would have taken to encapsulate all the obligatory things to make his movie an emphatic one. For many this may not be the best of Manirathnam but it definitely owns an unique style and theme. Music department by Gulzar and ARR I think I don't need to say more. Celestial by all means. What makes Dil Se songs so remarkable is "Chaiyya chaiyya," one of the most exhilarating musical sequences in all of cinema, in which the romantic leads dance on top of an actual moving train that winds precariously along a mountain path. Eventually "Chaiyya chaiyya" unanimously selected as one of the top ten songs of all time in an international poll conducted by BBC. As usual there are few malayalis also sharing the credits in this whimsy stuff. The malayalam parts in the song "Jiya Jale" were written by our very own ever stable Gireesh Puthencherry and sung by MG Sreekumar. All other songs were too good n still holds predominant position in my list of favorites.Yet another element in which we "Malayalis" can be proud of is Cinematography. Awesome frames by Santosh SIvan furnished the movie more astounding. Each frames could easily convey what really director meant.Without him It would have been an ordinary experience for me. I am pretty impressed with the way he captured the song "CHAIYYA CHAIYYA" and "dil se re". Other technical aspects like audiography and BGM did impressed many critics as well. At times I forgot about the screenplay and totally allied with magical BG score by ARR. I should say he simply stole the show. On a negative note I am not that impressed with the performance of the lead as well as supporting actors. Did not feel the ingenuity in SRK's acting. Lack of versatility definitely effected him in this movie big time. And yeah it was just an okay performance from Manisha as well. Initially Maniratnam planned to cast Simran as Preeti Nair but she apparently stepped back and he opted Preeti Zinta. She was the only relief for me as far as the performance is concerned. In fact I don't expect any débutante to play something exceptional on screen so neither did she, still loved the charm and cuteness of Preeti and that really enraptured the experience. None of the supporting artists had to do anything remarkable and all of them went unnoticed. It is really sad that movie failed to create an impact in BO even though the movie had its own flavors to tremble every records. Not the first time we are witnessing something like this In fact we are quite used to it. In the current scenario "Dil Se" would have been a mighty hit since now a days some baseless, obnoxious movies collecting billions and trillions. No matter its a hit or bombed "Dil Se" is one of my favorite and it always will be. This might be the only movie I like not because of lead actors but the awesomeness of those who worked behind the camera, is what sticks me to "Dil Se". "Dil Se" always will be in my "Dil Mein

This is one of the greatest and most crafted works of the incredible Mani Ratnam. I was stunned by every moment of it and the very first scene was enough for me to get completely hooked. Mr Ratnam's ability to make a grandiose love story and yet keep it starkly realistic is just unbelievable. It makes the viewer believe that true, intense love does not exist only in fairy tales, but in real-life too, with simple and ordinary people. Dil Se is a rare gem of its times - authentic, hard-hitting, gripping, and deeply involving. Some people have deemed it a bit slow and tedious, but according to me the film moves at a steady pace and is totally focused, engaging and captivating. The film's concept: a young, hard-working radio broadcaster falls in love with a mysterious, strangely apathetic woman who is actually a terrorist may have been tackled before by filmmakers around the world, but none has done it the way Mr Ratnam did. He directs this feature with heart and soul and intensifies it with complete mastery, so much that you cannot leave the screen even for one moment (even if you are one of those who prefer skipping the songs). The script is grounded in tension and mystery, and it thankfully avoids sentimentality. And then we also have some genuinely real yet exceptional dialogues, which bring forth a poetic quality that eases the serious proceedings.Every artist involved in this film gives one of their best. A.R Rahman, for one, creates one of the most crafted and beautiful movie soundtracks of his career, giving so much life and essence to the film. The songs flow incredibly well with the film, they never feel unnecessary, they fit the situations, and ultimately enhance the narrative and contribute to the film's mystery and intense atmosphere. "Dil Se Re", "Jiya Jale", "Chaiyya Chaiyya" and "Satrangi Re" - each track is a gem and showcases the greatness of Rahman and Ratnam, who visualises them exceedingly well on-screen. This of course could have been done without Santosh Sivan's brilliant cinematography. The performances are top notch. This is one of Shahrukh Khan's most accomplished and realistic performances. He is intense, witty, vulnerable, believable and convincing as Amar. He portrays a suffering man who would go to any strengths for a woman he hardly knows, and though his character's unconditional love may seem peculiar, he manages to keep it real and balanced. He conveys his feelings, whether it's sorrow, love, pain or anger, in his own inimitable style, using his troubling intensity and nervous mannerisms. One can really feel for the pain in his eyes, which is evident every time he meets this woman who keeps rejecting him. A superb act.Manisha Koirala, one of the most talented dramatic actresses India has seen, is flawless as Meghna. She smiles barely once in the entire film but her expressive eyes and silence speak volumes and always do the job. It's a natural and ambiguous portrayal of a woman who has lost belief in life and love, or at least of someone who compels herself to think so. She brilliantly displays the little nuances which let us sense her constant fights with herself and her struggle to not submit to her feelings every time she faces the bright side of the world, forcefully and firmly fossilising herself for the sake of a mission which must be completed.Preity Zinta, the star herself in her debut film, does something very few actors have been capable of doing: she makes a great impact despite having a very small role. It's a great achievement for any actor to excel and make a lasting impression with a role of such minimal importance and screen time. She is natural, vibrant and very likable, commanding the audience's attention with her strong screen presence and lively persona. She's always been known for her ability to add happiness and positivity to films which are overly serious and dark, and this one is no exception. Her full of life, frank and direct Preeti is one of the most unforgettable characters in recent years.Dil Se is a socially relevant movie but it is a love story at heart and there it scores the most. It may not appeal to all kinds of audiences (in fact, it was a box office failure in India, though a success overseas), more because of its brutally honest depiction of terror and national battle, yet it remains thoroughly fascinating. The film is atmospheric, dark and deep. The only aspects that abstract the viewer from these features may be the energetic music and Preity Zinta's light character. In anyway, it is a picture of great artistic excellence, and I would recommend anyone to see it. The ending is also most unpredictable, only making it more beautiful and memorable.
