Tannhäuser and the Singers' Contest at Wartburg Castle
TANNHÄUSER UND DER SÄNGERKRIEG AUF WARTBURG is a grand opera by Richard Wagner in three acts. After experiencing boundless sensuality and freedom with the fun-loving Venus (soprano), the singer Tannhäuser (Tenor) finds it impossible to conform to the cultured setting of his betrothed Elizabeth (soprano), who loves him. During a singing contest, Tannhäuser describes the affair with Venus as the ultimate love experience and because of that, he is cast out from the established society. Thanks to Elizabeth's intervention, he is allowed to undertake a pilgrimage to the Pope to ask for the Holy Father's pardon. If the Pope accepts to forgive him, he would be allowed to take back his place in society. Tannhäuser accepts. But fate will not allow him to meet with his beloved Elizabeth again in this life. This is a recording of the legendary staging by Götz Friedrich for the 1978 Bayreuth Festival conducted by Sir Colin Davis.

One of the best love stories. The screenplay is really interesting and the songs are just fabulous. Have watched it at least 20 times. Still i like to see it again. The roles were almost tailor made for everyone. And the lead actors were amazing. The chemistry between them rocked..... ....... ........ ......... ..... .............................. .......... ................. .................. ............... .......... ................. In short a must watch Tamil movie. Special mention Watch it in Telugu too. The dad's character was made pretty awesome in Telugu rather than Tamil.

ah! where do I start this is by far "the best love story" ever made there were many moments in this which made me cry, the protagonist of the film is just an average Joe with whom most of the young college going guys from Indian suburbs can relate with having nothing much to do he roams around with his friends and gets into petty fights with people around him, then comes this beautiful girl into his life who later becomes his love, passion and life and changes him for good, she makes him realize what his actual talent is and the way in which their whole love story is dealt is beyond brilliant. by the end of the film, u will be left with a mixed bag of emotions. words can't describe how much I love, relate to this film.

I did not hear about this movie until 2007. While browsing some websites, I read that the songs of this movie were good, that lead me to read the reviews of the movie. The reviews sounded nice. But what attracted me to download the movie for seeing was the face of the hero, which was totally non-hero like. I thought, how can a film with such a hero be a hit? That question led me to see the movie. The movie is about a normal next door boy Kadhir (Ravi Krishna) in the lower-middle class household, who is not so good looking, dull, irresponsible youth, poor in studies, rowdy, playful, mischievous, etc. A girl Anitha (Sonia Agrawal) comes to stay in the neighborhood at 7G Rainbow Colony (that is why the name) and Kadhir starts liking her. Anitha hates Kadhir and slippers him once while he approaches her in a bus. As events turn out, Anitha starts liking Kadhir, but wants Kadhir to be responsible in life before she marries him. She motivates Kadhir to take a job. Anitha's marriage is fixed, and before marriage she decides to spend a night with Kadhir. Sadly on the way back, they fight and in an accident Anita dies. The story is very well written. It has numerous small incidents of youthful play that would immediately click with any person. The direction is extremely efficient. It does not divert into any sub-plots and focuses on the issues of youth and love.Director Selvaraghavan shows brilliant skills in handling and conveying his thoughts in the best possible way to his audiences. Very few directors can boast of achieving such a close grip on the narration.Sonia Agrawal looks beautiful and acts wonderfully. She truly depicts the emotions and her character sticks to your heart. Ravi Krishna is good, but I think he can do only some things under a watchful director, otherwise he remains blank face in all scenes. There are so many touching moments in the movie that it is hard to pick out one, but I did – I found the scene when Kadhir tells about his job to his father and that night when his father and mother talk about how proud they are feeling about their son. I think it was a brilliantly executed scene. The music and songs are good and hummable. I can imagine them being popular when the film was released. The camera-work, cinematography, the down to earth real life characters – all make a good movie. At the end I became a fan of the director Selvaraghavan. I liked Sonia Agrawal too – and searching the web discovered that just a year back, She and Selvaraghavan got married.(Stars 7.5 out of 10)

The movie is really beautiful.. We cannot but feel sorry for the hero.. I think he acted very well... else this movie would not have had the same impact. I just could not stop my tears when he hears Anita die in the next room. The scene where he takes away the mat and the pillow on which Anita's dead body was laid upon was very very touching... Its a beautiful movie... touches your heart and makes you wonder if so much love can really exist for someone in your heart. I have seen many heroes.. handsome ones and not handsome ones.. but Ravi Krishna is definitely talented... Being a hero requires talent, not beauty.. and he definitely got it... I did not like Sonia Agarwal as much.. but this movie would not have been watchable without the Hero... he did justice to the role. I just kept wondering how a person could live all his life with so much pain and love in his heart.. .all these emotions are really brought to life in the movie.. Its a must watch...
