David DeCoteau's second film in the lengthy BROTHERHOOD series is a marginal improvement on the first, but that's really not saying much. Once again the story sees a bunch of high school students - who are in reality warlocks - attempting to introduce new members into their group. Inevitably some of the evil characters are murderous and go around bumping off peripheral characters until the good guys step up to do something about them.It seems that the budget for THE BROTHERHOOD 2: YOUNG WARLOCKS was slightly improved over the first, as the production values are slightly stronger. Unfortunately, there are even MORE endless scenes of young muscle guys parading around in their underwear here, as well as a three-way sex scene between two guys and a girl (what else?) which seems to last a lifetime. The whole thing is poorly acted and silly, just an excuse for the director to appeal to gay men who also have a tolerance for Z-grade produce.
The only appreciable difference between this film and its predecessor is the narration of one of the main characters. From the clumsy opening to the boy-on-boy (with girl) sex scene, this film is almost a ver batim copy of its predecessor. And again, do not be fooled by the cover; this is a homo-erotic boy flick. Take bad soft core porn and pair it with a laughable supernatural premise and shake in lots and lots of boys running around shirtless, taking off their pants to expose their tighty whities and looking at each other meaningfully, and you get Brotherhood II. As a friend said, "Sell your soul to the Devil, get ultimate power, get punched out by a b*tch".
I put this movie into my DVD player without ever seeing the first Brotherhood or researching for this film, so I really didn't know what to expect, except that my uncle(who let me borrow it) said it was crap. It's basically about 3 outcasts who meet a a new kid at their high school named Luke who promises them whatever they want is they break the 10 Commandments and be his friends. They all agree and break 9 of the Commandments with the last one being murder. This movie is really just below average. The dialogue isn't great and it really isn't much of a horror movie as it's not scary and the horror elements don't really kick in until way after the halfway mark. If you watch this from beginning till about the halfway point, you'd think this was a coming of age teen drama with gay soft core porn.I will admit that some of the music was pretty decent, and I thought it was edited together really well. Unfortunately though, for a cult movie there is pretty much no blood, just an off screen stabbing and a sliced throat.I don't recommend this unless your a women or gay with some extra time on your hands to watch a pretty dull "horror" film.
I really enjoyed the 1st Brotherhood, and was excited to hear that there was a 2nd and 3rd. Then I watched themThe acting is poor, although some descent eye candy in the form of Holly Sampson and stacey Scowley. it would have been better if there had been osme continuity to the 3 films, I mean even the Puppet Master films had continuity to them (well Mostly) the ending was a little dull, but its a okay flick to watch if you have nothing better to do and have 90mins to pass.
