If you like skiing or snowboarding, chances are you'll really love this movie. I happen to like snow sports, so I really enjoyed the visually rich treat and excellent audio track.Basically, this movie is a collection of visually stunning skiing and snowboarding scenes. The scenes (or segments) are unrelated to each other and are separated by shots from a busy metropolis. If there is one weak aspect to the film, it is this strange arbitrariness. It is very awkward. However, it is somewhat overshadowed by the great visuals and audio. All of these segments are beautifully done and with highly vibrant colors. See it in high-definition or IMAX to get the most out of it. There are skiing / snowboarding scenes that I have never seen done anywhere - like where they all do a 360 degree lateral loop - or are skiing at night with only hand-held sparklers. Absolutely stunning. The audio is outstanding as well. The music is a wonderful selection of styles and will likely appeal to a broad range of tastes. Furthermore, I have never heard the 'sounds' of people going over rails; these are great effects. My recommendation is to see this movie if you enjoy snow sports. It's only 40 minutes and you'll likely be entertained.
What a car wreck of a film this is - it's one long ad for Bogner Skiwear, along with Audi. Jumps back and forth between downtown Denver and somewhere in the Swiss Alps, with the cast wearing Bogner clothing, which no self respecting boarder or skier would be caught dead in.HORRIBLE soundtrack, I think they lifted it from some cut rate Bond wannabe or Europorn leftovers. Maybe Willie Bogner thought this was hip and cool music, but it's nowhere near hip and cool. And Pink? Puhleeze. This is truly a totally unwatchable mess of a film. Avoid at all costs. If you're interested in true ski/board films, check out anything by Matchstick Productions and Teton Gravity Research.
It seems that the makers could not decide on making a movie with a plot or just record the action as is. The result is neither a proper movie, or a documentary. Although some of the footage shot in the mountains is impressive on Imax-scale, the ski-action itself is disappointing, and makes up only half of the movie ( at best ). Furthermore the movie misses the esthetics of "Vertical Zoo" Y2Ski, or the sheer action in movies from MSP like "Ski Movie".Lack of plot or story-line is own to the genre, but it can and should be compensated by the action. People that have access to the Extreme-sports channel or have seen the latest ski and snow-board movies will be disappointed, for others it the movie is worth while seeing in Imax format and is reasonable entertaining. But it doesn't live up to its title.
In Leonard Maltin's movie guide, he used to call pictures like this "a non-movie." That's really what this is - moving pictures on a movie screen, but without plot, characters, or even dialog! It kind of reminds me of tapes that play in an audio video stores to demonstrate tv's and such - just nice scenery. Except those films don't show the Bogner sports logo quite so repeatedly. If there is a plot - it's seems to be about several people stuck in a traffic jam (obviously not actors) who sit in their vehicles and fantasize that they were out doing the trendy extreme sport of their choice. (Strange traffic jam... about 8 cars in a huge deserted intersection... what are they waiting for?) We are then treated to numerous 5 minute segments of skiing, snowboarding, S-U-Ving, etc. The photography is nice, Imax picture is good, locations beautiful, but it seems to get pretty tiring after about 20 minutes.I heard a couple of people complaining about the movie at the box office when I left the theatre - and one person said that it was like "a bad porno movie with skiing instead of sex". I thought that really summed it up! 30 seconds of really bad acting, followed by 10 minutes or more of action, but I guess you don't rent a porno for complex sub-plots...If all you want to see is great skiing scenes on a giant screen, and you don't mind non-acting, awful continuity, cheesy music ("live your life to the limit--do it today!") and cars which can fall from the sky, break off their wheels, and then drive away... this movie is for you!
