Was this remade just for black audiences? Is this the New Millenium Blackploitation? Sometimes, you just don't mess with an original. Ask Classic Coke & New Coke.

With the exception of Queen Latifa, Alfre Woodward and Felicia Rashad, there was not a single actor in this movie who had any grasp on their character. The old familiar lines are delivered abrasively, almost sarcastically, like not a one of them understand the undertones. I cannot say how many times over the years I have watched the original and I still love it, crying and laughing along with those ladies. I still don't understand why they thought they needed to remake a classic, but to do it so badly is a crime. Most disturbing of all is Shelby is comes off not just abrasive, but ugly inside, not at all what the character of Shelby is and there is zero chemistry between her and her mother. All in all, this remake was a fail, a major disappointment. It lacks the chemistry between the group of women; instead of filling the soul, it just tears into it with desperation.

I appreciate the fact that these actors And actresses stepped outside their comfort zone to remake this classic. I absolutely loved it. It really got me choked up. Men do cry when it's a good movie. Must see to appreciate. Queen Latifah is definitely that as she can play any role. Jill Scott is adorable and so full of life. These ladies definitely reached to this movie but it was amazing to see how major stars can come together and put on a fabulous movie. I can't stop crying. Wow I wish this could have came to theaters instead of just TV it's way to good for that. I can't say enough about the life changing events that this movie portrays along with the great scene is Louisiana. Reminds me so much of my childhood. Please watch to understand and appreciate the work of some of the most talented ladies of our time.

There are not many movie remakes that I like. There are some I really enjoyed such as Total Recall. They spent a lot of money and brought in great actors and kept the movie close to the orig. To take a very loved movie like Steel Magnolias and turn it on it's head, taking away some of the classic scenes that made the movie what it is and what kept it in our minds years later is just revolting. I have absolutely no issue with the movie being made with all black actors, but I do take issue with the movie being torn into pieces and becoming something other then what it is. I love Queen Latisha, she's a wonderful actress. The Bone collector is one of my favourite movies. Denzel Washington, well I just adore him. Queen Latisha did a wonderful job in The bone collector. But I just did not like this version of Steel Magnolias. Possibly if I had never seen the orig. I may have liked it...but....well I can not help comparing the two.
