De dhishqiya. Or, Dedh Ishqiya.Watched it a while back, and posting a very late review. Small cinema in a little (thankfully clean) vegetarian multiplex. Small screen - oh, I mentioned that already? Now, why is the sequel to a popular (not completely Indie, not completely commercial) flick playing in 1 show/day on 1 minuscule multiplex screen on the first day of its first week? Oh well, small mercy that it actually released here. What rocked? The chemistry between the leads, the (land that time forgot kinda) milieu, the music, the poetry, the technical aspects, the performances, the banter, (some of the) comedic writing (sleepover standoff, mobile phones esp.), (most of) the background and foreground score, and all of the language used. There are just not many movies being made in this milieu, and that's a disappointment. I could watch Huma Qureshi in anything, and Vijay Raaz is as menacing as he is hilarious. Madhuri always overdoes it, and is no different here; however, she thinks that overacting is acting, and most of her audience seem to agree, so who am I to complain? Naseer does well, as always, but is hampered by a puzzling lack of characterization. Warsi, as always, in this series along with the Munnabhai ones, stands out, and is perhaps one of the best reasons to watch this on the big screen. What sucks? The fact that this sequel doesn't take off from the kick-ass final scene of Ishqiya, (most of the) comedic interludes, the meandering plot, the holes in said plot, the over-confidence of the director, the characterization (or lack thereof) of the new characters, how not to end a joke and keep repeating it, the lack of a(ny) element of surprise, the absence of one of the main leads from the 1st movie without any explanation whatsoever, and the fantastic noir-ish tone of the original. Still puzzling over why that approach was left behind, along with the lead. All in all, definitely better than most of the commercial crap shitting in cinemas. Do give it a chance when you have some time. DVD's the only way to go now.

Dedh Ishqiya is more like a beautifully crafted 70 MM "Urdu Tukbandi" . If you're a fan of really, really great writing, clever lines, Urdu literature and Shayari, Dedh Ishqiya delivers by the truckloads. A Movie in which every performance is at its best-est including, Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raj. Madhuri Dixit - Nene is as scintillating and adorable as always, while Huma Qureshi marks her presence quite profoundly(As Always). Please don't judge Arshad Warsi on his performance in Mr Joe B Carvalho, he is born to be the "Babban" of "Ishqiya" Series, which seems to be a life time investment plan for him. A perfect blend of Vishal Bharadwaj and Gulzar Saab's flavor. 9 "Yad Al-Jauza" from side for this movie.

What a wastage of wonderful star cast!!! Seeing the star cast especially Naseer sahib.one had expected a masterpiece in the league of Mirza Ghalib!!! It is reprehensible movie with senseless and illogical storyline.Naseeruddin Shah should have refused such stupid and childish movie.Arshad Warsi is the only one who fits its character. At best it is a comedy film where you park your brain at home.Madhuri Dixit - in a haste of comeback - has chosen utterly disappointing movie. neither the genre nor the Urdu language suits her style.Wastage of time and some of the language (abusive words from the mouth of Naseer Sahab)is disgraceful.

"Na bolun main to, kaleja phoonke Jo bol dun to zabaan jale hai".....Starting with this shayri..i would like to congratulate the entire team of Dedh Ishqiya in which they presented the classical charm of Old nawabi world, which was somewhere lost in Hindi cinema...One point i would like to mention here..this movie led me to the era of 'Mere Mahboob(1963)'...where chaste Urdu literature were common in Hindi films...It is really much appreciable that when we almost thought that Urdu is not only dying in our culture but also in cinema too...During the meanwhile This film came like a Panacea in order to revive Urdu a- dab(literature). The specialty of this film is that despite being a comedy film...it contains certain elegance unlike the cheap comedy shown in contemporary films.Comedy scenes contains abstract kind of humor which challenges average Indian movie buff's intelligentsia i must reckon that masala film lovers will certainly not enjoy this classic.Sketches of all the characters ware well defined and all the actors fits in their prospective roles....Last word....kudos to makers of Dedh Ishqiya'...wish they could make next sequel ''Dhai Ishqiya....
