The film take a voyeuristic slant on the material, with lots of lingering shots on the victims bodies.Perhaps this was the goal of the director, but it blends elements of soft-core porn with the murder scenes. Almost a grindhouse horror movie. But since it's based on real murders, there's no camp factor, and is just bad taste. For narrative purposes, it focuses on Ted rather than others around his killing sprees, but superficially. It doesn't try get under the hood and becomes repetitive. It also makes him appear as if he's just a robot doing the killings, one right after the other. But I've seen interviews of him where there's a lot of internal conflict, self-serving fear, narcissism etc.The script and the director takes chances, but don't deliver. The actors I think did their best, but overall it's a big missed opportunity to make this more than a rated R version of a Hallmark movie of the week.
Before seeing this film, I have seen a documentary about the cold blooded killer but I don't know much of him 100%. All I knew was that he hasn't known his real father and his mother was 16 when she had him. Also of course I knew he killed a lot of poor innocent young girls. However, after seeing this film, I have learned a lot of who he was as a person. I know Michael Reilly Burke isn't the real Ted Bundy but, he really did look like him in a killer style of form. He was honestly scary, lemme tell ya!I would probably freak out if I ever saw him on the street or even on films. Although I'm sure he is not like that but still, he played a risky character who was for real, a murderer!I honestly can say, this is a not bad horror/crime/biography film even if it was considered the worst movies to watch!
I'm not sure movie was designed to be 'liked' in a traditional sense. In case you've never heard of the titular character, Ted Bundy, he was one of the most notorious serial killers in modern day history. Seeing as, even today, most of his crimes will only be known to him, this film gives us a reasonable idea of what he was like. And it's safe to say that he wasn't very nice.I haven't looked into his life well enough to say how accurate the facts are, but, from what I've gathered, this is a pretty good representation of how he acted. It's near impossible for any viewer to feel any sympathy for him; if the film has any sort of appeals it's because it's more like a car crash where you just can't seem to look away. Bundy meets women. He's amazingly charming then he kills them. If anything, it serves as a severe reminder to be more than a little weary about people you have only just met (and don't go anywhere alone with them!).I have seen a couple other movies made about Ted Bundy's life and I would say that this one is the best. The others do touch on different aspects of his life, i.e. his dabbling with local politics. However, although this one almost completely omits this aspect of his life, I do feel this is the best one overall. The film itself doesn't really contain any 'big names' you'll recognise and does have a kind of 'made-for-TV' kind of feel for it. But, if you're looking for a half-decent biopic movie about Bundy's life, then you can do worse. However, you will need a strong stomach as he his (brilliantly portrayed by Michale Reilly Burke) and therefore as sick as they come, both in his mind and his actions.Like I say... you won't really 'like' this film as there's really little to like about the entire of the subject matter. However, if you're looking for at least a little insight into the minds of one of the nastiest men in modern times, then you'll find more than you want to know here.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
Now, be prepared, because I'm about to save you nearly 2 hours of your life. I can't help but feel that somebody watched American Psycho and decided that it needed to be remade, badly, very badly. What you should have here is a film about Ted Bundy; a sick and twisted man who committed crimes that would make the devil himself lose a boner. It should be a film that is locked inside Bundy's head. A psychoanalysis of a man constantly battling the urge to kill yet never winning and somehow thriving in his defeat. But no, here it is folks, the American Psycho remake I sure as hell don't remembering ordering. I find it incredibly disrespectful to the victims and their families that any murder scenes were shown at all, let alone the fact that they were this graphic. It's torture porn, pure torture porn, the very stuff Bundy ironically blamed for his murders in the first place. The film has no weight to it and is purely a very shoddy attempt at a horror film. All in all, you will gain nothing from this film in relation to Bundy. If you pretend this isn't about Bundy, that the characters are fictional and not genuine people whose families are still no doubt effected everyday by their loss, then what you have is still a below standard horror.
