Adapted and directed by Peter Brook from the Royal Shakespeare Company’s ‘production-in-progress US’, this long-unseen agitprop drama-doc – shot in London in 1967 and released only briefly in the UK and New York at the height of the Vietnam War – remains both thought-provoking and disturbing. A theatrical and cinematic social comment on US intervention in Vietnam, Brook’s film also reveals a 1960s London where art, theatre and political protest actively collude and where a young Glenda Jackson and RSC icons such as Peggy Ashcroft and Paul Scofield feature prominently on the front line. Multi-layered scenarios staged by Brook combine with newsreel footage, demonstrations, satirical songs and skits to illustrate the intensity of anti-war opinion within London’s artistic and intellectual community.

Every time I remember this movie, I always think of how horribly it was mistreated by Summit, because it's a movie that deserves to become a classic of the teen genre, but it will never be because it was awfully marketed as a "High School Musical" without Zac Efron or Ashley Tisdale."Bandslam" is much more adult than you think. The film delivers a real vision of high school, all the bullying, the awkwardness, love, and with a little injection of rock... the cast is perfect, maybe Vanessa was a little weak at times, but I think it was Sa5m's personality, not her skills. Aly and Galean steal their scenes, being dramatic when they have to be dramatic, funny when they have to be funny... it's a movie that has you smiling, crying, being shocked. The story is believable, it has you interested from beginning to end. It's definitely one of my all-time favorite movies. If you're a rock/indie fan, you'll be pleased with the soundtrack.Maybe if Summit would have marketed Bandslam the way they marketed "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", it would have the attention and love it deserves, oh well. I highly recommend it! Give it a chance!

Clever right? But I'm serious, this movie is a slam dunk. Almost impossible to resist. People may think that you age out of teen movies but that is not true. How do you age out of good movies? You don't. I still watch "Angus" once a year and replay the ending at least three times. Which begs the question: Who's better movie mom? Kathy Bates in "Angus" or Lisa Kudrow in "Bandslam"? (That may be impossible to answer.)"Bandslam" is a "Put on a show" movie that has a climax like a "Rocky" movie. The cast is dead on. Maybe there is some corn but corn is important to any balanced diet. By the way, I just watched "Bandslam" and watched the ending four times.

I am surprised of how much I enjoyed this movie. It was clever. You know how teen movies – especially ones involving kids competing against each other in school related events – tend to be highly predictable? Well, this movie had real unpredictable moments… I mean real ones. Like when Will is upstage and everyone is chanting his name (this is not a spoiler, don't worry)… I didn't know what was going to happen until it happened. I know this might sound kind of lame, it's only a detail but the fact that they managed to surprise me with it was really something. And, the mirror scene. How many people wish they had thought of this for show and tell? And the kissing scene! HAHAHAHAHAHA. With the hat and the hair…. God that was funny. I'm still laughing just thinking about it! The only reason I'm giving it a 9 is because one small detail bothered me. How in the world did they come up with the song at the end? It was a little far-fetched which kind of clashed with the rest of the movie because the rest made sense… if you've seen the movie, you'll know what I mean. And I cried! Twice! One time because I was touched and the other time because I was sad...So, this is a FAMILY movie that is CLEVER, FUNNY, SAD, TOUCHING. I highly recommend this if you're hanging out with your younger sibling or if you are babysitting a 12 year old (not younger than 12 though because they might not get all the jokes...) They will LOVE it and so will you!

BandslamStarting a high school rock band, nowadays, is as easy as plugging plastic instruments into a video game console and following the progression of blinking lights. And while most teens are comfortable pantomiming their prowess in a virtual world, others, like the ones in this movie, are intent on rockin' out old school.Upon moving to a new town, music aficionado Will (Gaelan Connell) meets jaded Sa5m (Vanessa Hudgens), who informs him of their school's bandslam competition. Known for his music savvy, Will is approached by Charlotte (Alyson Michalka), a popular student who hopes to tap his astuteness for her bandslam entry.A tongue-in-cheek critique of the state of music, as well as the close-minded cliques that preserve it, Bandslam is a refreshing surprise filled with sardonic jabs and stirring family secrets. As for my high school band – we called it quits after someone stole all of our air guitars.
