I thought this was decent movie of its genre -- better than a lot of the other ones I have seen. Considering what were probably budgetary constraints from being a kick-starter project, I think it was actually pretty good. While not on par with $100 million films, I would never have guessed its source of funding from watching the movie. The story was not the most original, but it is pretty difficult to find one that is completely original anymore. Seven ships left Earth when there was a catastrophe. They went different directions via wormholes and are looking for a new home. We are introduced to a generation of young folks who have never experienced anything other than life on the ship in space. They are training under the direction of Capt Hunter (Kevin Sorbo) for the day when they find a new potential home.A signal is detected and on the way to investigate, the scout ship with said young people and Capt Hunter is pretty much destroyed with the surviving passengers scattered all over the landscape. The heroine, Kate (Danielle Chuchran)then has to overcome a bunch of obstacles to survive. The rest of the story is mostly about how she deals with those obstacles. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I actually did like the ending (though it was somewhat predictable). For the most part, I thought the acting was very good. The 2 main performers in the 1st half of the movie (Chuchran and Sorbo) did very well. Sorbo did spend a lot of time not moving around much, but Chuchran was pretty active and made up for it. Rocky Myers didn't actually show his face until probably about halfway through, but he did a good job too. The other actors were mostly supporting roles (I did want to smack the whiny guy a number of times -- if that was his goal, then he nailed it).The special effects were a lot better than some of the ones I had seen on B-Movie sci-fi night (what my late wife and I called the cheap movies on the SyFy channel). Most of the movie had no special effects to speak of, mostly some reasonably decent monster makeup. However, when there were some FX scenes, they were generally done pretty well. Nobody will mistake the FX in this movie for a $200 million Marvel Comics movie, but it would be entirely unfair to try to compare it to one. I think they did pretty well with what they did.The story wasn't incredibly original, some of it was very predictable for anyone who has seen similar movies, but the actual dialog was pretty good and (IMO) believable (as much as dialog can be in a sci-fi world). While not exceptionally deep, the characters were human and they came across that way.Overall I'd give this a 7.5/10 (I rounded up to 8). It ain't going to win any Hugo awards, but it is actually better and more entertaining than some of the larger budget movies that have hit the big screen and certainly a lot better than the grind-house sci-fi that ends up on MST3K. It's worth a watch on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

So apparently the Earth drifts out of its orbit for some reason and to fix this the human race decides to smash sub atomic particles together in particle accelerators despite the fact this would do absolutely nothing to solve the problem. Then to make matters worse for some other random reason these particle accelerators create mini black holes which proceed to heat up the Earth and boil off its oceans. This of course ignores the fact that said black holes would in fact rapidly descent to the Earth's core and begin eating it from the inside.Anyway what this film mostly consists of is a girl running, jumping and climbing a lot. At one point she even has a magic quiver of arrows which, despite the fact you can clearly see it has only one arrow in it, keeps producing new ones until she's killed all her enemies before finally running out. She also does a lot of posing on high rocky outcrops despite the fact she's trying to avoid the locals.Oh and Kevin Sorbo lies at the bottom of a cliff with a broken leg for two days in a desert yet appears not to be in any need of food or water. He really is Hercules it would appear.I notice this was funded through kickstarter so that old maxim of "a fool and his money are soon parted" seems as true today as ever. Probably more so if this nonsense is anything to go by.

The title of the movie is Survivor (2014) Written and Directed by John Lyde, I found the movie entertaining, eminently watchable, and dumb.Spoiler ahead.2014 was a year of Science Fiction gold, This movie was overshadowed. Whats it about? A one woman army of one, chasing across some attractive landscapes. In this case our Marathon Woman is Kate, played by Danielle Churchran. She is pretty, and watching her run, jump, climb, ride, fight and fight is entertaining, She is suppose to be from space, with a crew aboard a spaceship piloted by Captain Hunter played by Kevin Sorbo, who it turns out, spends most of the movie on his back. The ship is also crewed by an odd lot of expendable actors.Escaping a dead earth, they see a world to inhabit. They hop on the wormhole express, next stop an earth like world; So they crash and land on a wild and primitive planet. Sound familiar? Rather early on,After the crash, the crew is separated, When the movie fits an action search and find format, it rolls smoothly enough, but when the story gets in the way, it goes sappy. Enter Rogan, played by Rocky Myers English speaking Clan member, and resident of this "strange" planet, with horses. and Murlocks. The creature effects are passable, All around good production values, nice score by James Schafer The movie does fine when the plot doesn't get in the way, It ends rather anti anticlimactically as the remainder of the cast continue to overact, and reassemble to be rescued from what? this movie, can't blame 'em. I would give Survivor six out of ten stars because of its free-fall plot.

First off you really do have to hand to to this entire crew for creating a movie this big in scope completely through Kickstarter. This is a fully fleshed out scifi movie that sadly falls so flat. There is so much over acting, and way too much video game style leveling up as the story progressed. Simple things that make no sense like a comm system that seems to increase it's capabilities as we get 20 minutes further in. A strange race of Morlock types who seem fine with the sun, and still were shredded clothes that they could never have worn to begin with that look like stretch Armstrong, but they all go down with one punch. I kept trying to like this movie just for the sake of it, but there are just too many of those. A race of strange people speaking Klingon or something that can understand English just fine (The Queen's English at that). The action would be good enough if it wasn't so over the top, and over acted. The week are feeble, and the strong are not always strong. Kate can lift herself up a mountain with her arms, but has trouble on a horse, and they did say "gravity normal" when they first landed. Last thing really "Taking on water" where? then she was just floating under the water. Saturday afternoon popcorn stuff here. This is the movie you will watch while you clean the TV room. I really liked the special effects, most of the green screen was handled well, and the story is just too much like a loose Seventies kind of thing before real science started getting into science fiction stories. I Enjoyed the end result even though I was shaking my head a lot, so I say if you like movies where women kick but, and climb stuff, then this is that, and there are space ships too.Jesse of www.jesse.ca
