Distraught, confused, and half-wild with fear, Sarah Carter emerges alone from the Appalachian cave system where she encountered unspeakable terrors. Unable to plausibly explain to the authorities what happened - or why she's covered in her friends' blood - Sarah is forced back to the subterranean depths to help locate her five missing companions.

Honestly, you just HAD to make a Part Two? The first one did so well, but as you can tell by just the Rotten Tomatoes score, something changed. First of all, guys, when something works ... do not try to "fix" it. Oh, you thought maybe the first movie was too dark and it would be better if we were able to see more? Well, the darkness is what made it scarier. (Not to mention more realistic.) This is why it is not scary this time. The ambient light coming from nowhere in a dark cave system!! LOL We are laughing our heads off at whoever it was who decided to use more light. I mean, come on! Did they bring someone new in who thought he/she/they could do a horror film properly? Well, they didn't know how to do their job. Another reason to keep it dark in this film ... the sets are horrendous. I feel like I just got transported onto a Star Trek set from the 1960s. Bottom line, the first movie was good. Let it be. Don't watch this. They couldn't even tie Part Two in properly with the first movie, right off the bat. There is nothing here that will be answered, if you even had questions after the first. Just more of the same, death and survival. Please, do not make a Part Three.
Do you think it's a coincidence that this film is set in the Appalachian Mountains of the US? (Filmed in Britain.)That section of the country is the inbred/incest capital of the US. (And maybe the civilized world.)These creatures are the result of decades of hillbillies discarding the unwanted children in a cave - sometime in the past. They continue to breed, and multiply. They evolve into blind, deformed "humans."The old man at the end of the film, is a member of the "family," who drags the animals to the hole, to feed his "kin.""Surface humans" have only entered the cave a few times (thus the cave drawings, and old equipment in the first film, found by the women). The cave dwellers simply see invaders as more food.
It felt like a decent sequel especially if u consider how good the first one really was.It has some claustrophobic moments, some tension, good and funny dialogue in certain scenes. Of course, cliche's are there but it doesn't fell too far fetched.Good to see some continuity regarding cast, decor set/set design and creature appearance. Also nice to see that some actors from previous film were cast and delivered credible performance. I would recommend it even if you haven't seen the original, which is a must see in my opinion.
I loved almost every bit of this movie, the producers/director either got it right consciously or by mere luck. As a lover of horror movies for a lifetime, this delightful almost parody of the first movie is a guilty pleasure like few other of mine. I love a good camp movie and i loved this movie because it's so cool about it. The gore and violence are enhanced to almost the levels of an early Peter Jackson movie or an Italian 80's gore fest. In fact i couldn't help thinking about how it felt like when the Italian trying to exploit an American hit would make movies like their "Terminator 2", "Alien 2" or "Zombie 2" (Dawn of the dead was called simply "Zombie" in Italy. But this flick is more than that, it has a good solid plot and the actors are believable and play it straight and that's what blew my mind, specially in this era of over serious approach to absurd premises. This movie understands it's preposterous origins and does what it has to do, not a simple continuation of the first one but a fun exaggerated barely tongue in cheek proposal of the original material. I've seen it more than The Descent and will probably do it again in the future.
