Newsies: An Unexpected Masterpiece Continues to AmazeNewsies, an unrecognized cinematic masterpiece made in 1992, is a classic, feel good Disney musical. This movie, starring Christian Bale and David Moscow, does not only feature exquisite singing and choreography but the story of poor newspaper salesmen and their journey of standing up for their rights. The film is rated PG and is 2 hours and 1 minute long. It is safe and fun for the whole family. The setting is 1899 in New York City. Newsies everywhere are selling Joseph Pulitzer's 'World', when the price to buy a paper goes up 1/10 of a cent. Keep in mind the newsies are already dirt poor, now they have to pay more for their job? This increase in purchase price does not settle well with them. Jack "Cowboy" Kelly (Bale) takes charge and leads the newsies in a strike against Pulitzer. David (Moscow) and his younger brother Les (Luke Edwards) help Jack get back the regular price. The newsie boys try to rally together the young workers of NYC to bring back fair wages. The newsie's story takes us on an amazing escapade of singing, dancing, some suspenseful fights, and even a little romance. Though it may be corny in certain scenes, the upbeat songs are catchy enough to get stuck in your head for days at a time. You can decide whether that is a blessing or a curse this movie musical has given you. I give this movie 4/5 stars for it's great story line and acting. I would give it 5/5 stars, but some parts are so cliché you cannot help but notice them.
Newsies is a musical phenomenon set in the time of the paperboy strikes of 1899 in New York City. It's a family-friendly tale of brotherhood among young boys in trying times and of the struggles that they were able to face together. The choreography is top notch for a film released in 1992, but it is not up-to-par with today's standards. Fortunately this is made up for by the absolutely stunning Broadway musical version of Newsies. The movie pales in comparison to the modern Broadway version, but at its time it was absolutely amazing. The Broadway version is currently still on tour throughout North America. It is still a hit among all audiences! When the film was originally released, its lovable characters and impressive musical scores were not enough to give it good viewings. At that time, the musical genre was not nearly as popular as it is today Though this movie is not the most historically accurate, it portrays the time period well through the excellent costumes, settings, and script of the movie. Overall this movie is definitely something I would love to watch again, and I know I could watch it with anyone. It truly is a wonderful story of brotherhood.
Newsies, Informing and Entertaining Newsies is a 1992 musical inspired by the real-life New York City Newsboy Strike of 1899. Newsies is a Disney movie directed by Kenny Ortega that later became a Broadway musical. This movie features Christian Bale, also known for his appearance in The Dark Knight, playing Jack Kelly and David Moscow playing David Jacobs. Newsies won a Razzie Award for Worst Original Song. It was also nominated for a Young Artist Award for an Outstanding Young Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture. It starts off with a group of newspaper boys. The leader of the group is Jack Kelly, 17, who is known for a trouble-making past. When prices of the newspapers raise, Jack Kelly and the newsies, make a stand to go against the man in charge, Pulitzer. The boys find ways to go against the newspaper to be heard. Newsies, a family-friendly movie, is a classic movie for all to enjoy. Although there were a few unnecessary characters brought into the film, overall it was an amazing movie. The soundtrack is very catchy and the choreography is fun and personalized for each boy. Newsies brings attention to the harsh reality of struggle that the young boys went through. I would strongly recommend this informing, yet interesting movie.
Newsies, a Disney film directed by Kenny Ortega, was released 1992 and featured a young Christian Bale playing the lead of Jack Kelly. While historically it is not completely accurate, the concept of the children standing up against their unfair pay and hours, is correct. The exact details however, become a little skewed. There are no girls featured in the movie as newsies, when in reality newsies were both boys and girls. The acting from the young kids is superb, and realistically portrays young New York kids trying to make a living for themselves. My favorite part of the movie was the choreography and soundtrack. They were marvelous, and helped the movie gain enough popularity to be made into a musical, which is still preformed today. Overall, this movie demonstrates that there is power in numbers for the youth, and standing up for what you believe in is important
