The plot is very simple and not original. Lead actress does a good job but the movie is all about that and a few eye pleasing scenes. Rest is boredom with longer than necessary scenes. Nothing is developed and minor things float around all through the movie.Despite building any tension or helping the movie at all some scenes are much longer than necessary. Many parts are fruitless with story being never close to neither reality nor absurd. The pace never increases and the ending doesn't do enough to save it.

Joon-ho Bong's "Mother" is a calm and down to earth murder mystery as well as a surprising and dark drama. It offers clever writing, beautiful cinematography, and great acting. At that, it plays in the same league with other Korean hits like "Oldboy" or "Lady Vengeance", so it's no bold guess that it will be remade by Hollywood just like those. Which is a shame since the remakes steal attention from their originals. But that is another subject.Another thing that all these movies have in common is that, at their core, they are about family bonds. The same goes even for Bong's monster movie "The Host". So far, "Mother" is the most consequential movie in this regard. It think this is the reason why it is so easy to relate to it. It doesn't just show off the skills of the director, the camera man, the writers, the actors. It has a heart. A heart that is light at times but which can also be pretty dark.

This is seriously the most epic film I've ever seen in my whole life. The epicness of the film can not even be described. The son is epic. The mother is epic, the WHOLE THING is so epic!!!!!!! It is so epic I would recommend this epic film to any people who likes epic films. It is the most epic film I've ever seen. I've said this before, BUT IT'S EPIC. EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But It's really epic, and I'm not even saying this to trick you into watching a non-epic film. It's seriously an epic film. Everything about this epic film is epic. The 2 main characters are played epicly. The scene where the boy scissor kicks the officer in the back of the head is so freaking epic. Literally. Watch this epic film. 10/10 for epicness.

Memories of Murder, Oldboy & Madeo are the three Korean movies which will stay in your mind for a long time. This is the first time I'm writing a review for a movie at IMDb and this movie really deserves one. Madeo is about a mother who is trying desperately to bring her son out of imprisonment. I watched it late night, the screenplay is engrossing to such an extent that some scenes of the movie gave me goosebumps. Narration, Music and Cinematography make it an absorbing experience. The build up to the climax is really amazing. It's really hard to predict what happens next. There is something about the Korean movies which brings the characters involved in it closer to your heart. Be it the performances or the body language it stirs your heart. In the end when the mother dances on the tour bus after injecting herself with acupuncture, especially with music in the background leaves a lump in your throat.
