Because I said so (2007) was a pretty big let down. I'm a humongous Diane Keaton, so that's really why I watched this movie late one night on TV, I was hoping it would be a great one like almost all Diane's films. But with this film, it's poor script and dull screenplay was it's ultimate downfall. Diane and Mandy Moore actually had good chemistry, and their acting wasn't bad, but they just had very poor material to work with, it's really not the actor's fault, it's the writers fault. The casting was pretty good and I enjoyed the characters. But even with good actors, a movie like this can still fail due to poor writing. So unfortunately that is the cause of death for because I said so, poor writing :/. 3/10 for Because I said so. It did have sons occasional heart warming moments between Diane and Mandy, so that's why I'm not giving it a 1 or a 2.
This movie is horrific. It was so hard to watch that it literally gave me a headache and the dialogue made me cringe. Diane Keaton's character is annoying, I believe that's where my headache stemmed from. Aside from the horrific plot and stale character interaction, a few other things really bothered me about this movie. Like the way the psychologist treated her patient, actually the way they portrayed the neurotic person in general was quite offensive, making him seen more like a nuisance than an actual ill patient. If anyone's "psychologist" would treat them the way she treated that patient in the scene where her sister came to her office as an "emergency" (I hardly think family drama qualifies as a work emergency, especially if you're going to ignore and condescend your patients. ) it would not be a comical situation as they made it seem in this film. It would be completely unprofessional, and just plain sad. It would make me wonder why the hell this person became a psych to begin with. Another thing that really got me was the fact that she chose the sensitive, struggling musician with the ADHD ODD child instead of the Well established architect. Which is fine, if she wants all that baggage then she can knock herself out. But what, she couldn't possibly end up with the guy her mother set her up with right? The wanna be rock star should have just minded his business, but then again I guess the movie would have been an even worse cliché and wouldn't have the slightest indication of a "plot twist" (not that he added much anyway). This movie just plain sucks. Don't watch it. I have watched movies that people have said this about, and thought they weren't THAT bad. But this Is quite possibly the worst movie of all time.
After 40 minutes - and that was too long already - I had to stop. Otherwise I would have thrown my TV out of the window. 4 women, constantly screaming all at the same time, wildly gesticulating, totally pointless and extremely un-funny dialogues, obviously an attempt to make all those hens coming along extraordinary unique, chaotic and oh so clumsy, yet so lovable - NOT. It was the first movie I just couldn't sit through. THE HORROR. The makers should be seriously ashamed of what they delivered here. I couldn't even have a laugh about how miserable it was. That is all.
Mandy Moore. America's most sweetheart ever since she debuted in the charts in 1999 as a pop princess singer? WHY did she have to star in this piece of crap is beyond me. I felt so sorry for her here and the only reason I watched this garbage was because of her. Right so in it she plays a girl who is tired of men. She doesn't want to go on dates nor marry them as she went through a bad relationship with a guy who broke her heart in half. So her mother Diane Keaton decides to put matter into her own hands and sets up a dating scheme so that she can find eligible bachelors for her daughter to fall in love with. So she comes across one who is just the right match but Moore's charcther falls for a former guitar player and his father falls for Moore's charcther's MOTHER???Oh well I guess you can spot this A MILE AWAY as to what is going to happen next. Bottom line this is not worth watching and if you want my advice watch Moore in Tangled and A Walk To Remember these two films show how great she is as both an actress AND a singer.
