Gigli is ordered to kidnap the psychologically challenged younger brother of a powerful federal prosecutor. When plans go awry, Gigli's boss sends in Ricki, a gorgeous free-spirited female gangster who has her own set of orders to assist with the kidnapping. But Gigli begins falling for the decidedly unavailable Ricki, which could be a hazard to his occupation.

I believe this was supposed to be a tongue in cheek subtle mob comedy/drama, but unfortunately the plot moves too slowly to hold much interest. There are a few comedic parts but they are too few. It comedic style is subtle dark humour and situational.Had the director sped it up an element of farce could have emerged, but I believe it was slowed for dramatic effect or in some parts to create a more heartening experience. Which is fine with comedies involving complex plot lines or wit, but for a film such as this, it made it tedious to sit through, especially since it is a long flick. The script needed revising, and editing could have removed a large chunk of the film and it would have improved a lot. Some scenes really didn't need to be in the film as they didn't add to the story. J-Lo does ok, but unfortunately Ben's performance as a semi-brained mobster was not convincing. The Leisure Suite Larry background music and blank silences added to what people would consider a bad film and is probably one of the reasons it was reviewed so lowly by so many people. Most Hollywood films have a run of the gun style production, faster, more action and bigger is better. I think the intension of this film was the opposite and tries to give a more 'real' feel to the film, different to the normal tripe the leads are usually cast in. Again, it doesn't really work in Gigli, but the style doesn't always make a bad film. Gigli is watchable its just unlikely to be on anyone's best film list.
Larry Gigli (Ben Affleck) is a low level mob thug in L.A. Louis (Lenny Venito) orders him to kidnap autistic Brian (Justin Bartha). Brian is obsessed with Baywatch and brother of the D.A. prosecuting mobster Starkman (Al Pacino). Gigli pretends to be working for "The Baywatch". Louis puts Ricki (Jennifer Lopez) in charge. She's a lesbian and Gigli is frustrated. Police Det. Stanley Jacobellis (Christopher Walken) investigates Gigli for the kidnapping.I don't see where the comedy is supposed to be coming from. The plot drags along slowly. It's terribly long. A bad movie can make time stand still. Gigli is such an unlikable character, Riki is stiff, and they have no chemistry together. His treatment of Brian is cringe-worthy and Brian is no treat either. The three lead characters sound like a bad joke; a meat-head, a lesbian, and a retard. I feel like this movie is begging for somebody like Tarantino to make the dialog sing. I don't think Martin Brest is capable of doing the writing that is required. Walken tries his best but the words lack the fun and power. There isn't one single smile-worthy humorous moment in the whole movie.
I like Ben Affleck. He's a talented person and I'm sure he's a nice guy, but clearly he wasn't thinking straight when he decided to sign on to this mess. Not even him, Christopher Walken, or Al Pacino could save this movie from failing. At one point, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez as a couple was a big thing for tabloids & the media but here, they have zero chemistry in this movie, which isn't good for a romantic comedy. It's barely acted and it feels as if there wasn't even a script during production. The film revolves around Affleck as a gangster who has to kidnap a mentally challenged man (played by Justin Bartha), then J-Lo helps him out and the catch is that she's a lesbian. Imagine Kevin Smith's decent movie "Chasing Amy" minus the enjoyment, while adding a crime plot and pretentiousness and you have "Gigli".Apparently, this flop of a movie costs around $75.5 million dollars. Where did all the money go? How can anyone green-light this? I went into the movie with an open mind and five minutes into it, I knew it was only going to get worse and worse. I take full responsibility for seeing it out of my own curiosity, so you don't have to sit through this painful 2 hour garbage. If you like Ben Affleck, go watch "Good Will Hunting" instead of "Gigli" and you'll thank me later!
Gigli is everything. horribly acted, awful screenplay, stupid plot, overlong and so, so unwatchable ending."Gigli, a lowly and inept hit-man, is assigned a job by the mob to kidnap a mentally retarded brother of a California district attorney. Gigli abducts the brother from his mental hospital and holds him hostage in his apartment. Ricki, a "lesbian assassin", is sent to oversee Gigli's job and make sure he doesn't screw it up. Comedic high jinks ensue as the two go on the lam and start to fall in love." that's the plot! Why I give this film 2 stars rating? because some scenes and performances in Gigli actually very good. but for another scene, is so awful or nearly unwatchable. the soundtrack of this film also very good. but they put it in a wrong situation in the movie. It's so hard to recommended this film for you. but watch it, like I said, there's some good scenes.
