Jack Regan, a hardened cop who doesn’t play by the rules, is confronted with a criminal from his past. With sidekick George Carter they are put on the case of a jewellery store heist that ends in a killing. But is that killing really an execution in disguise? With pressure from his boss and the fact that Regan is having an affair with that boss’s wife, it’s not going to be easy for him to stay out of trouble.

Very few "remakes" work and they tend to vary from good (where you disassociate the re-make from the original) The Man from Uncle being a good example. One word sums this film up = DIRE. Ray Winstone's portray of Regan is wooden, unconvincing and looks as though he needs a zimmer frame . The original Sweeney was brilliant because it reflected reality and was believable . The story is not too bad , but most of the acting is dire (why people such as Damien Lewis got involved is unreal). The actions are just stupid.I actually fast forwarded most of it.It certainly ranks as one of the worst 10 films I have ever seen, I am glad I did not waste my money on it
Being over a certain age, the original television series and film, is still fondly remembered. Thus, this re-make, whilst still maintaining many of the original attributes and features of the original, does rather struggle to reconcile 20th century policing methods with 21st century living. The casting choices were excellent, with Ray Winstone and Ben Drew carving out excellent characterizations of Jack Regan and George Carter respectively. It takes a couple of born and bred Londoners to pull this transformation off successfully and this pairing worked well for me.The plot may have had a few holes in it and didn't really stand up to too much scrutiny, however that can easily be said for the original production of both 'The Sweeney' and many other films from similar genres. All in all, this was a film which is commercially sound, lends itself well to the big screen and reminds me of a bygone age, when policemen were allowed to police and the villains all knew exactly what would happen to them if they got caught. Maybe life would be a whole lot better if we rolled back the clock a little!
This is a lazy pathetic remake of a classic 70s cop show the only reason it gets 1 out of 10 from is cause of Ray Winston he is credible as jack Reagan although not as good as the original Played by the outstanding John thaw he least brings him to life with his own interpretation of the character . As for the rest of the cast are weak and wooden especially the actor who played carter maybe needed a few lessons at acting school before making at an actor his wooden as a plank of wood but that can be said of the over actors who frankly don't even try and bring some life into this tepid material that would frankly suit an Steven sea-gal action flick . Overall if you like Ray win-stone then i guess check it out but if not and liked the original 70s series stick to that .
This film is strong on action which is violent most of the time. The London depicted in it is very different from the London of the original TV series. This is a re-developed London and Docklands, the night photography was good and enjoyable. So were the interiors, clinically clean. The dialogue contained too much swearing for my taste. it was strong on the "macho" short on the witty. The car chases were great. Just as well there were no cyclists on those country roads with that psychopathic driving from villains and Sweeney. Perhaps I was looking for the TV series Sweeney-speak... "OK son you're nicked" and the rhyming slang, but then would you call a mobile phone a "dog and bone"? The final car chase was good with hand-break turns worthy of rally driving. I was expecting the tyres to blow before the guns went off. The filming was good. The Regan and Carter in the film lacked the camaraderie of the original characters and the dialogue was coloured with so many swear words, I didn't really notice much else. For me the film dialogue lacked the humour and wit of the original TV series, but the setting and filming made up for that.
