They Came Together is a spoof on traditional rom-coms, and it mixes traditional jokes and skits with completely random acts of silliness and quirky facial expressions. To me, the genius of comedy directors and actors is revealed by the attention to details, and there are tons of amazingly funny details in this movie. You can watch it several times and still discover new ones. If you wanna make sure you get a lot of them, keep your eyes on Paul Rudd, who is a master at this type of subtle comedy. They Came Together is without a doubt one of the funniest movies I've ever watched. I laughed out loud several times and was entertained the whole way through. If you can watch this movie without laughing, you must be dead inside.

A small business owner (Amy Poehler) is about to lose her shop to a major corporate development. This film seems to get a bad rap, with people saying it is not a good satire or parody. I respectfully, and strongly, disagree. So many movie conventions are turned on their head. Obviously, the traditional romantic comedy blueprint, but even more than that. And some moments had me laughing out loud (literally).Although "Wet Hot American Summer" is considered a modern classic by some, I think "They Came Together" is the superior film. It's more mature, more consistent. Maybe it will take a few years, but I see this becoming a cult film.

First off : this is my first review on IMDb ever, I've been browsing here for almost a decade but now the time has come to state my opinion. Because I can't really comprehend the low score for this movie, and also it has put me off from viewing this for a while, even though I'm a David Wain fan.I guess the humor isn't just for everybody. To be honest, I think this flick will have more success in Europe/Britain countries because the gags in the movie are really 'un-American type humor" like. Do you like absurd satire? This movie is filled with witty goofs that really ridicule al the modern day rom - com clichés, amazing performances by all actors that finally get to display another kind of comedy. Paul Rudd is an amazing versatile actor and Amy Poehler is definitely the funniest woman out there in Hollywood! This is my kind of movie, where I really laugh during the movie, like physically laugh out loud and later mesmerize how great it was, thinking about the best quotes that were in there. Just the title alone got me in a giggle every time I see it.No doubt this will have a cult following, just like American Wet Hot Summer.

They Came Together has all the ingredients of a trite romantic comedy... but in this occasion, the clichés are intentional, because this is a satire whose objective is laughing at the genre, exploiting its well-known formulas and stereotypes in order to denounce its routines. Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler bring perfect performances in their roles; they were able to adopt the exact tone of seriousness and sarcasm. Besides, we have a long parade of solid comedians (Bill Hader, Ed Helms, Michael Ian Black, Kenan Thompson, Jack McBryer, Ken Marino and the great Ellie Kemper) bringing "spark" to the supporting roles (but, how the hell wasn't Judy Greer, the eternal "best friend", invited?). On the negative side, I didn't like the screenplay from They Came Together at all. A big majority of the jokes fail because they are insipid and predictable, while the fleeting slightly funny moments are alien to the main plot (and they are only due to the talent of the actors). The result is that They Came Together ends up being a bad romantic comedy, and the fact that its mediocrity is intentional doesn't lighten the boredom it generates. In conclusion, the whole cast from They Came Together made a good work, but unfortunately, their performances caught in a tedious and mostly unfunny film. We all know that most of the romantic comedies are absurd, repetitive and unreal; but it's not enough with pointing that out in order to make us laugh.
