I went and saw this in the theater when it first came out, two weeks after opening day, to be precise. I barely heard anyone of the people in the auditorium laughing, but I laughed so hard and so much throughout the runtime of the film that I had to view the film a second time at home to spot other in-jokes and references, for which I missed so many of those! The animation is gorgeous; the colors, the designs, the effects and the backgrounds are truly a wonder to behold, especially due to the fact that this movie was animated by a company that produces direct-to-DVD kids flicks(they've also produced Beast Wars/Transformers, there you go, 90s kids), and the visuals make the most out of fun 3-D gimmicks, unlike other animated films these days. The true shining star of the film other than the humor is the variety of voice talents; all fit their roles perfectly and are hilarious as their characters. Ignore the naysayers and check out this underrated animation that gets just about everything right: the comedy, the animation, the voice acting and the heart. It's not a Lion King or a Shrek, but it's a great entertainment that'll both thrill the kids and the kids at heart.

Escape from Planet Earth is a 2013 Canadian-American 3D computer animated comedy film produced by Rainmaker Entertainment and distributed by The Weinstein Company, directed by Cal Brunker, and starring the voices of Rob Corddry, Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, William Shatner, Jessica Alba, Craig Robinson, George Lopez, Jane Lynch and Sofía Vergara. On the planet Baab, dashing astronaut Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser) is a national hero and master of daring rescues. However, Scorch does not work alone; his nerdy brother, Gary (Rob Corddry), head of mission control at BASA, often lends quiet, behind-the-scenes support. When a distress signal arrives from a dangerous planet, Scorch ignores Gary's warnings and sets out on a rescue mission. Scorch soon finds himself caught in a trap set by an evil enemy, and it's up to Gary to save him.

Now I saw this movie twice before. It wasn't a success for me. The animation is decent however cheap and very boring looking, there might be some funny parts, but that's about it. The writing isn't very good, its not very exciting after a long time, its just forgettable. The characters are so horrible and annoying. It was made in 2013, home of some bad animation like this, Free birds, Walking with dinosaurs, and the unsuccessful Planes movie (I haven't seen it, but I've heard its pretty bad.) So overall, this film was mediocre and poorly written. So save your money and watch a better space movie like Star wars or Galaxy quest. They are both live action, and better than this. This is a film that should've been nominated at the Razzies, but wasn't Story: 2/10 Animation:4/10 Characters:2/10 3/10

We saw this on DVD from our public library. As with virtually all animated movies, it is just an extended cartoon just for fun. There are many sight gags and slapstick, plus a few funny lines.The main character has Brendan Fraser voicing Scorch Supernova, who looks and sounds a bit like Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story movies. But where Buzz was a toy, Scorch is an actual blue alien living on a world many light years away from Earth. He gets the emergency call and heads to Earth for a rescue.It is funny the way these aliens describe Earth, calling it the "dark planet" because aliens who go there never escape, like they get sucked into a black hole. The aliens use old films to show some Earth facts, and in their interpretation it is the only planet where evolution happened in reverse. It started with intelligent dinosaurs and now is inhabited by an inferior species, humans.In a stroke of irony Scorch ends up at the 7-11 store near Area 51, that region famous for alien sightings. It turns out the US government has a secret fortress where various aliens are imprisoned and studied. In fact most of the new technology, cell phones, the internet, etc were results of technology stolen from those captured aliens. So Scorch with the help of his geeky brother has to free everyone and escape Earth.Other great voice actors include Rob Corddry , Ricky Gervais, Jessica Alba, Sofía Vergara, and Sarah Jessica, plus a number of lesser-known talents.
