After Dick Harper loses his job at Globodyne in an Enron-esque collapse, he and his wife, Jane, turn to crime in order to handle the massive debt they now face. Two intelligent people, Dick and Jane actually get pretty good at robbing people and even enjoy it -- but they have second thoughts when they're reminded that crime can hurt innocent people. When the couple hears that Globodyne boss Jack McCallister actually swindled the company, they plot revenge.

Fun with Dick and Jane is a mediocre movie with an average plot, despite a very talented comedic cast. There is not a dull performance in the bunch, featuring Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni, who have a great back and forth with one another, there pairing is unlikely, which makes it all the more enjoyable. There are also several great supporting roles throughout from the likes of Alec Baldwin and Richard Jenkins, who all bring their A-game. However, the film itself sadly does not deliver on the potential of its great cast, they all feel wasted and restricted by mediocre dialogue, as well as a lackluster plot. There was a sense of a studio involvement in this, not allowing the performers to stretch their legs and really have fun making the movie. The plot is also very inconsistent, having little idea of what tone it is going for, ranging from slapstick, to black, satirical conedy, then having some dramatic moments, it all got very muffled. Instantly forgettable. Worth the look if you are a fan of Carrey or Leoni, but Fun with Dick & Jane is a very mundane comedy. A couple turn to a life of crime after losing a hefty sum of money. Best Performance: Jim Carrey
Although i had some laughs and i did, this movie is not meant to be made at all as it lacks all the needed things to make it something you like to see again or want to ask someone to go see.The movie is based on Fun with Dick and Jane by Gerald Gaiser.About Dick who had a high-paying job; he and his wife Jane (Tea Leoni) live in an expensive house in the suburbs, with their son Billy and housekeeper, Blanca (Gloria Garayua).Their life crashes head-on into reality when the firm Dick works for turns out to have been losing money but have been lying to everyone to make matters worse they made Dick the fall guy for some of their dirty dealings. Now broke and with no money and losing everything Dick and Jane start getting involved in anything they can even using guns to make money. The problem with this movie is the script and then the screenplay, some events in the movie are too ridiculous to be even considered that there were added at all. If you now add that to the acting skills of Jim Carrey, Téa Leoni and Alec Baldwin you have great actors doing a good job acting some really stupid scenes. While filming the coffee shop robbery scene, Leoni seriously injured her shoulder while sliding on the counter. During the scene where Carrey jumps into the ceiling and hangs above the bank desk, when he was stepping down, he accidentally fell and smacked his face on the floor. This painful blooper made it into the film.Fun with Dick and Jane came out after Series of Unfortunate Events, now series was a wonderful movie while this just fell through the cracks.Dean Parisot directed this movie and he will also be directing RED 2.Now this movie actually was a financial success, and i did laugh enough times to enjoy it, but as i said i can't recommend it.
I'd like to share an experience I'd while watching this movie yesterday. I'd just come back from office, flopped on the bed and took out my shoes while flipping channels on the TV at same time. Just then, one of the channels began to air Fun with Dick & Jane. The moment I saw the opening rolls showing Jim Carrey sprinting out of his house, I became rooted to my bed. He's one of my all-time fave actors.Throughout the 90mins(the channel didn't even give an ad break), I didn't move an inch, not even an inch! I didn't even want to change out of my office wear fearing that I might lose even a small moment of comedy from Carrey or Tea Leoni. That's how entertained I was with this movie. So many funny scenes of Carrey and Leoni that I can't pick a favorite really. Both give a great performance. Didn't realise that Tea Leoni could pack so much fun in her, after watching her very serious character in Deep Impact(1998). Every other cast here were just kinda normal supporting actors for these two guys, including "The Shadow" Alec Baldwin. Ya, he was just a shadow here too :-) Maybe the ending could have been a bit more lively. I felt the state of shock that Alec Baldwin's character goes through in the end wasn't portrayed convincingly. The whole shot that included Baldwin, Carrey, Leoni, the media & crowd of others felt a bit weak to me.Verdict: Still, a great comedy, great direction, great performances. That's it, review over!
Well, it's interesting to see Jim Carrey doing works different from his usual ones; okay, maybe this isn't THAT different from them, but at least he doesn't sound like a goofy retard anymore. In this short flick, Carrey's character is a desperated man robbing and cheating everyone around because his company broke and he's totally out of money. For a comedy movie, I believe there are too few funny moments, but at least they don't try to hard and fail like many of Carrey's comedies do. The plot itself isn't too elaborated or developed; the story is told in an entertaining way so the spectator doesn't have time to get sick, tired or lost in the story. Agree with me or not, but I liked this film better than "The Truman Show"-- and I must say I'm ready to be offended and receive thousand of negatives reactions to this opinion of mine.
