Ashley Judd is Lucy Fowler, bright and strong-willed, but with no direction and no boundaries. She has gotten to the point where she drinks too much, then takes home any half-decent guy who shows an interest in her. The next morning, sober, she seems to regret what she has done, but not much.Ashley Judd is super in her role. She is pretty but not glamorous, and she really makes us believe she is what she is playing. The story is a journey to see if Lucy can redeem herself. She can never truly love and respect someone else if she can't do that for herself first. She meets what appears to be a really nice guy, but she pushes him away, physically and emotionally.SPOILERS. It would't be much of a story to tell if Lucy didn't change, and if she spiraled down into an even worse state. We see her changing, and the prospects look good, but for me the transition seemed too abrupt. Still, a decent movie.

very good movie, added depth to Ashley's acting! hidden gem, Im so glad I came across it! its a little sad, dysfunction in a small town and inside a woman who learns about love, and loving herself. A very real character, that is flawed, Im not sure how it did with awards but I think it was over looked. Its a drama that is focused on relationships in one woman's life. its a very smart movie that you have to think about, not everything is spelled out for you. but I think its not to far out there for most people to understand! I love movies that don't give you a Hollywood ending, this movie is more about people you could know or do. I have watched it 3 times and will again1

Ashley Judd used to be one of my favorite actresses until Kiss the Girls and pretty much everything that followed. Come Early Morning is nothing new nor does it try to be but what it does is deliver solid performances from every single person on the screen. Judd plays Lucy a smart trash talking train wreck of a human being who cannot connect emotionally with the opposite sex that is until someone gives her a little nudge and things begin to come together for her. This movie falls somewhere between the undercooked Sherry Baby & the horrible abomination The Holiday. Which is to say that Morning plays it straight for a more direct approach which is way more satisfying in the end then either two movies mentioned above. Come Early Morning is a no bull no brainer that succeeds by not talking down or at its intended audience. Im hoping this marks a return to form for Judd. Cant wait to see her next one Bug looks amazing. For now though check out Come Early Morning directed by Chasing Amy star Joey Lauren Adams and starring Laura Prepon(70's Show)Diane Ladd,Tim Blake Nelson,Jeffrey Donovan(Blair Witch 2)& Pappa Titus/Mike Hammer himself Stacy Keach.

Greetings again from the darkness. First time writer and director Joey Lauren Adams is probably best known as Amy in "Chasing Amy". Here she bares her soul in a story based on her life in Little Rock, Arkansas. The premise of the emotionally absent local girl (a very earth turn by Ashley Judd) who drinks away her pain while sleeping with many a different guy is not necessarily a bad place to start when telling a story of self discovery. What goes wrong here is just the constant cloud of depressing people and scenes. We have no one to pull for (except maybe Kim, played cheerily by Laura Prepon from "That 70's Show") as they all seem to be drowning in a sea of self pity. Perhaps that is Ms. Adams point. The supporting cast is impressive and solid with Jeffrey Donovan, Diane Ladd, Scott Wilson, Stacy Keach, Tim Blake Nelson and Pat Corley. Sadly, none are really given much to work with as far as script or character development. While, as a writer, Ms. Adams shows little promise, we should not give up just yet on her directorial abilities. She does a nice job of capturing small town U.S.A.
