The name art and artists gets thrown around too easily So I just had to write a Review here. I'm an illustrator and artist myself and Different artists see Beauty or dark in different things and Creation is both an armor and a weapon to express or something other. It's really impossible to label It, Not all Thinks alike. When it comes to anime (japanese animation) the art of Akira, wolf Children and many of the ghibli is more Beautiful too me personally. And has more creativity and thoughts behind it to make an unforgettabe yourney.I'm not saying 5cm per second is bad in any way. It's just not even near the best film I've seen. visiually stunning animation doesn't make a whole Movie. The first chapter hooked me in. It was subtle and romantic. And I definitely got a bit melancolic and missed japan. But That magic ended in chapter 2 and 3. THe Music was boring, I didn't like how the story unfolded and I became very irritaded with the characters missing all opportunities. towards the end. 5 Cm per second is a good Little snoose 'with Beautiful animations. But it isn't even on my top 50 list of best animated Movies ever. I watched it once. And feel no need to see it again. that's why I only give it 3 stars.
Expected a lot, turned out its just a story of real human persons with whole lot of disappointments..... yeah I know that's life. You are not getting any entertainment from it instead you might recall couple of your disappointments of your life while watching it. In the end the movie left you with nothing expect with sad empty feelings. There is nothing wrong with the movie. Maybe I am the wrong one by thinking movie is a great piece of art to entertain people.... After watching "Kimi no na wa.", I thought "5 cm/s" will also be a great masterpiece. But I was wrong. It left me with an emotional state which is hurtful & its killing me.
"5 Centimeters per Second" is an animated movie that tells the story of two childhood friends Takaki Tohno and Akari Shinohara, who are separated due to Akari's family transfer to another region of japan for his father's job.The movie is divided into three parts. Each telling the story at different points of their life. The story is pretty straight forward but manages to deliver it's message quite beautifully. The movie focuses on Takaki Tohno, how he deals with the separation from his childhood friend and lover and moves forward. The animation quality is extraordinary. The characters are well made. The background details and camera angles compliment the different settings that the movie has. Tenmon did a great job in delivering a great soundtrack that matches well with the pacing and mood of different scenes of the movie. To summarize the movie, it takes the story of growing up into something no less than a masterpiece with great characters, excellent storytelling, pleasing art and soothing music.
This is a beautifully animated film. It tells the story of Takaki and his struggles with love through three chapters of his life. (I have checked the spellings of character names but there may be errors as I don't speak Japanese.) The story is excellent and made me feel sympathy for the characters. However, due to the story's tone, this film is not appropriate for young children. The film deals with mature themes such as love, devotion, time, loss and heartbreak. I do however recommend it for teenagers and adults. The first chapter is great. Takaki travels across Japan by train to see Akari (his best friend from elementary school). The train is delayed multiple times due to snow. By the time he arrives, there are no more trains that day so they spend the night together and share their first kiss. (There is a lot more going on in the chapter but this is a quick bare bones description as the other chapter descriptions will be.) The second chapter is also great. Takaki is now in senior high and his friend Kanae has feelings for him which he does not share. Throughout this chapter Kanae struggles to tell Takaki her feelings. However, this chapter is tragic, after witnessing a satellite launch she realise that Takaki will never love her back so she decides not to tell him despite how much it hurts. The third and final chapter is disappointing. It shows Takaki in his 20s struggling with his feelings for Akari. While the chapter doesn't end in a happy reunion (it ends with the two hoping to meet again) this is not why I was disappointed. The reason I was disappointed was that this chapter is too short. While the first two chapters were about 20-30 minutes each, this one was probably 5 minutes long. Because of this, this chapter's story wasn't developed to the standard of the first two chapters. This film is just over an hour long and I feel had it been around 80 minute long, this chapter could have been fleshed out a bit more.Despite my disappointment with the third chapter, the first two chapters are strong enough for me to recommend this film and give it an 8/10.
