Construction company owner John Matthews learns that his estranged son, Jason, has been arrested for drug trafficking. Facing an unjust prison sentence for a first time offender courtesy of mandatory minimum sentence laws, Jason has nothing to offer for leniency in good conscience. Desperately, John convinces the DEA and the opportunistic DA Joanne Keeghan to let him go undercover to help make arrests big enough to free his son in return. With the unwitting help of an ex-con employee, John enters the narcotics underworld where every move could be his last in an operation that will demand all his resources, wits and courage to survive.

Jason (Rafi Gavron) has friends that do drugs. One of them sends him drugs through the mail, which he was half-heatedly opposed. Jason gets busted as did his friend who turned witness against Jason, claiming he was going to help sell the drugs. Jason is faced with a mandatory 10 year sentence, along with all the other innocent people in prison unless he snitches on everyone he ever smoked a doobie with.Jason refuses and would rather get beat up in prison. Dad (Dwayne Johnson) however has a different idea. He cuts an unorthodox deal the federal prosecutor (Susan Sarandon) that would give Jason a get of of jail free card, if he delivered them a felony conviction. Dad employs the help of an ex-con (Jon Bernthal)in his construction firm to make the contact. As Dwayne gets deeper and further up the food chain, the federal prosecutor wants more.Clearly Dwayne is in way over his head. We really don't feel the peril as much as we should because it is Dwayne Johnson who we have seen out run, out gun, and beat up armies of evil men.The acting was decent, even from the support cast. The plot and dialouge needed some help. The film attempts to show that mandatory sentencing laws are unfair and judges should have more leeway in sentencing, but it doesn't inundate you with the theme so as to interfere with the film.A good semi-family film for Rock fans. One you might want your teen to see. This is another story based on true events. This one is more believable as it doesn't include aliens, ghosts or zombies. The explode on contact cars are still hard to swallow.Parental Guide: No sex or nudity. No spoken F-bombs. A brief F-bomb in graffiti background most people will miss.
Snitch gives us a different Dwayne Johnson which is great but the film lacks action which it's not that big of a deal but when you have a tall muscular dude and you turn him into a chicken then we have a problem there are many other actors in the past who went from action heroes to family men and yet they still killed a lot of people or kicked some ass but in this case it's not the same since it's inspired by true events. The rest of the cast did also a good job and the film is directed and produced in a good way if you can handle 2 or 3 problems that it has you will probably like it a lot. I give it a 9 out of 10 it's a good movie and Johnson kills it.
The Rock has always been considered a charismatic individual with not great acting, however, this film shows that he has true acting ability that we have not really seen this before. This film starts with the Rock's son being arrested for drug dealing and to attempt to shorten his sentence by helping the FBI make similar arrests. Now this film is a drama and with that you need good acting and The Rocks kills it in his role and you truly believe the situation he has been placed in. Also all the supporting performances are good as well adding to this intriguing story. Another positive is the interesting realistic story which really is intriguing for the majority of the time. Towards the end of the film the action starts and this isn't anywhere near as interesting as the story and just feels like a generic chase scene. Also because this is a drama there are some really slow parts in this film but overall I thought It was a well acted film with great suspense.
"Snitch" was actually a nice change of the usual movies that you see from Dwayne Johnson. So whether or not you enjoy that change is, of course, a matter of personal preference. I enjoyed it, because it was a step away from the usual one-man-takes-down-a-whole-army-type of movies that he makes. And it is also the type of movie that shows that Mr. Johnson has a talent for acting and not just portraying muscular action hero types. So thumbs up for that. The story is about a man being forced to work for the DEA in order to take down a Mexican drug smuggling cartel in order to reduce the sentenced time of incarceration for his son.Story-wise, then the movie was easy to follow and progressed at a great, constant pace. It was a shame, though, that the movie really didn't throw any surprises to knock over the audience, and as such, the movie was a bit too streamlined and predictable.Alongside Dwayne Johnson, then "Snitch" did have some great names to the cast list. Especially Barry Pepper stands out in this movie, as he was so well-cast for that particular role, not to mention having a great appearance going on with that look. But also Jon Bernthal and Susan Sarandon were doing great jobs with their given roles. It was a shame that Benjamin Bratt didn't have a bigger role, because he is always great in his movies."Snitch" is a nice and entertaining movie that is well worth watching, for both fans of Dwayne Johnson and for people who enjoy an action-thriller with a proper storyline.
