Tarsem Singh's adaptation of "Snow White" depicts the queen (Julia Roberts) less as an evil maniac and more as a bored rich woman who puts all her resources into vanity. I thought that the most interesting character in "Mirror Mirror" was Nathan Lane as the queen's lackey. In fact, one scene in particular stands out. When the queen decides that she wants to have a ball, she sends the lackey to post a note about a tax increase. He tells the people that their taxes prevent the monster from attacking the kingdom. In other words, contribute to the war machine or the terrorists win.It wasn't any sort of impressive movie, but it wasn't bad. Snow White herself seemed kind of flat, but I liked the dwarfs. There was another adaptation of "Snow White" around the same time but I've never seen it.
If you are looking for the original story, stop looking, because it isn't in this movie. This is a completely different spin on the old story and definitely not Disney's original nor the original from before Disney. It has new twists, new characters, a similar plot. It's fresh and light with humor through out. Not as dark and scary as other versions.I especially enjoyed the dwarfs, the soundtrack and the FX. I also was enthralled by Lily Collins as Snow White. Some might dislike her but I thought she did a wonderful job, no, brilliant. I also enjoyed Ms. Roberts in the role of the evil queen.7.5 stars. Maybe an 8... the kids loved the movie. OK. An 8.
Between animated versions, live action version, takeoffs, homages, television show, etc. of the classic Grim fairy tale it is entirely possible you've seen this version before and have just lost track. An A-list celebrity stars as the protagonist despite being the bad guy but this isn't "Maleficient". That is a separate movie, the difference being that movie involves a re-contextualization so that we see things from the antagonist's perspective although that movie isn't "Wicked". That was musical based on "The Wizard of Oz" presumably the original not the remake with James DiFranco. Basically, Hollywood is so out of ideas that it's becoming difficult to keep track and maybe you should just watch it even though you may or may not have already seen it. See enough current titles and you've seen every plot ever used in the last 10 years anyway. In short, entertaining if a whole lot derivative.
Mirror, Mirror is just pure fun!! This film is so beautiful and colorful. I adored the costumes in here, it should've won the Oscar for best costume design, it was cheated! Honestly I just had so much fun while watching this, I have to love it!! I also love how the evil queen's mirror transports her into a whole different realm, so much cooler than SWATH's magic mirror!!! I just love the visuals here, this movie never failed to keep my attention!! I plan on buying Mirror Mirror on Bluray!! Lily Collins beats the living CRAP out of Kristen Stewart for Snow White. Kristen is the most boring and life less Snow White i have ever seen. But lily Collins was so beautiful and emotional as Snow White. That is just how Snow White should be. And Julia Roberts, OMG best part of the movie, couldn't imagine a better evil queen!! I just bought her performance!! She was truly evil in this movie!! Overall I think Tarsum really knows his stuff when it comes to fairy tales!
