When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours -- in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

Funny, cute and sweet, Just like the cartoons growing up. Loved it.
I've been knowing the Smurf characters since I was a little kid. I even have a few plushes which were purchased by my siblings many years ago. I also got to see episodes of the TV series over a decade ago just after I got cable. I never thought the characters would make it to the silver screen. Nevertheless, they did. And when I saw promotional posters of the film, I was somewhat amazed. Unlike the TV series which was in traditional animation, the Smurfs are in CGI and are in a live-action film. By turning the characters CGI, there's some noticeable differences on how their eyes look but it ain't bad anyway. What's the best thing that's applied to the film? Well here's one I have in mind. By selecting Paul Reubens to play Jokey, the filmmakers certainly corrected a flaw that was applied in the TV series. Characters should be played by the right people.
I think it's just okay. The plot is nothing new. I mean we've seen it before in Thor & Enchanted, but it's not too bad. Is there anything bad about this. Well, duh! Neil Patrick Harris is pretentious and bland, and some of the humor is bad(Ex. Gargamel Pee Joke). But there is some good stuff about it. The lesson is good. I guess you grow to like Papa, Clumsy,& Grace. There is some funny stuff in this. I kind of agree with Spill.com. Gargamel was pretty funny. I laughed hard during the lord of the rings joke. The CGI is nice. I like the voice acting, with one exception. What the heck is George Lopez doing in this movie? Johnathan Winters was perfectly cast as Papa. Fred Armisen did a good Brainy. Anton Yelchin & Katy Perry already have a Smurf voice. George Lopez is just distracting. Is it great, no. Is it awful, not that much. Is it harmless, yeah. It's better than the chipmunk movies. You can show it to your kids to shut them up and you may get some laughs out of it. Just rent a Pixar movie instead, even if you like it like me.
ill say it again,i hate critics with a passion, they should disappear from the world map,a regular person don't look at a review or blogs like nutshell review or roger ebert to see a film,.you see all the positive vibe spread by people for smurfs is fake & ridiculous.the plot goes as smurfs get chased by a evil magician & they are thrown out from there wonderland village into the real world city new york.now here comes the solid mess smurfs looks like they are all genius little things but actually they are pretty dumb, they get into a couples apartment & ruin there lives till the climax its filled with stupid vulgar jokes & worst voice acting & oh forget the real cast like Sofia vergara etc they all look awful.the story writer was real bad.this is a movie for kids it should have remained animated as real smurfs classic.Hollywood just ruined it.there is a similar movie called enchanted 2007 which shares the same situations as shown here.i am sorry but real fans of smurf will be disappointed Skipp this film at all costs.my rating is 2/10 for only great effects
