Denis Villeneuve didn't debut with Prisoners, but it was this movie that put him on the map as one of the most exciting new talents to come around in sometime. Prisoners is about a pair of girls who are abducted which leads to an investigation and search effort by the father of one girl played superbly by Hugh Jackman. This is a tough but rewarding film to sit through and the pacing is good- you will be transfixed throughout. The acting is superb and everyone from Terence Howard and Jake Gyllenhaal to Paul Dano and Melissa Holly shine, but the star act is Jackman who should have received more accolades for his turn as the distraught father in this movie. Cinematography is stunning as is the direction.
I have been watching many Mystery movies lately and this movie is a must watch. The acting is done superbly by both Huge Jackman and Jake. Huge performing a serious roll really stands out. Also the way movie progress is really good. Its a slow pace movie making suspense and thrill come into play and till the end you remain who is going to be it.
When i first watched this i was stunned at how good it was. The brilliant acting, the intense plot, the emotional music, the dark cinematography and more importantly, the ending. It leaves you guessing. It's breathtaking.Denis Villenueve pulls off a masterpiece of a film. Most people won't like it due to the fact it takes 2h and 30 mins but I certainly have no problem with it.The entire cast, Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhall, Paul Dano, Maria Bello, Viola Davis, and Terrence Howard are all amazing. Emotional and powerhouse performances. Johann Johannsen's amazing score gives you chills and complements every single scene. Roger Deakins beautiful and dark cinematography makes for a gloomy setting. Denis Villenueve's direction of the film makes for a film that flows perfectly from scene 1. This is my favourite film of all time and nothing will beat it. It's an underrated masterpiece and you won't be disappointed!!!!
Prisoners is as close to perfect as a film can get. The cast add so much to this already intense and dark film, especially Hugh Jackman who gives an absolutely harrowing performance as a broken and deeply furious character. The musical score is slow and adds to how mesmerising the film is. It's hard to stop watching despite how dark, relentless and raw the story gets, due to the incredible directing, unpredictable characters and the mystery that keeps you guessing even if the answer is right in front of you. Despite being two and a half hours, nothing feels unnecessary, and the pacing never drags despite the length. An utterly perfect thriller with an incredibly compelling collection of broken characters and a mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat right to its final, armrest gripping moments.
