I must say that I love watching The Rock in movies FAR more than I liked watching him wrestle. He was great at wrestling but I think he belongs on screen instead of in the ring. Great movie, awesome action scenes!
Dwayne The Rock Johnson is an actor whom I like. He seems like one of the nicer celebrities out there, but for some reason his movies just seem bland, and dont interest me that much. Outside of one Fast & Furious movie (whatever the last Paul Walker one was) I have not seen a movie starring him since Faster in 2010. So I decided to give San Andreas a go when I spotted it on Netflix tonight. Sadly it was as bland as I imagined!! Plenty of innocents who we didn't care about bit the dust, but the main cast all survived with just a few scratches. OK I wasn't happy Kylie Minogue came and went so quickly, but I'm probably in the minority in that one!! At times the effects looked decent, but at others not so much. All in all, I found it to be a bland by the numbers disaster movie. All I took away from it was I will always have a crush on Carla Gugino and Alexandra Daddario (the actress playing The Rocks daughter) is HOT!!
I can assure you have seen this before, it isn't any different from the classic Hollywood natural disaster movies, apart for maybe the slightly better special effects, but all movies of this sort have outstanding special effects nowadays, don't they?Every single natural disaster film cliché has been taken into account when creating this, makes it look extremely cheesy and very ''american'' with The Rock, of course, being the big, invincible buff guy who saves the day, in this case his family. I mean, the special effects were pretty awesome, but it doesn't have the ''wow factor'' anymore, since we have seen so many movies similar to this there isn't anything surprising. Without surprise the plot is extremely easily predictable and linear, i mean its so predictable you will easily be able to say what's about to happen in every scene, that's if you have seen about 2-3 movies like this.Overall, it can work as a braindead entertainment movie you watch, when you are seriously bored and don't have anything else to watch as it's extremely easy to follow and you don't need to think, just let your brain drift.
Raymond/Ray Gaines (Dwayne Johnson) is in the LA Fire Departent Air Rescue when the San Andreas fault causes the mother of all earthquakes and triggers a Sunami. This is another earthquake film in which the main characters are in the midst of divorce and find themselves together trying to save their offspring who is in peril. Great special effects. Good film for family viewing with tweeners on the weekend, has something for everyone.
