Eddie Ogden is his pa's pride and joy as well as the Groundhogs team's only asset as baseball talent. Then Eddie discovers a taste and talent for cuisine. Although his brothers Andy and Alex, and Pa as well as classmates enjoy his dishes, they only mock cooking, so he arranges and 'accidental' registration for him and two friends in Home Economics. Only Eddie -secretly again- and nerdy shrew Bridget Simons enter a national cooking competition for school-kids. Ma finds out and to his surprise proves supportive, as well as the teacher, who once won the competition herself.

Didn't really watch the movie but while my kids were watching and I was reading the paper I heard them using the song "Soul Food" which is from Leon Russell's 1967 album, Asylum Choir that he did with a guy named Marc Benno. For those who never heard of Leon, check him out - he should be in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame for his contributions during the early years with such folks as the Beach Boys, Joe Cocker and as a solo artist. Weird.....I am a huge Leon fan and the last place I would have expected to find his songs - let alone this one is a Disney movie. Great choice Mr. Director...... well i see I need ten lines of text so here goes.. this is the tenth line!!!!!!
A typical upbeat kids movie but with a notable different message. The REAL story is that our hero, 14 year old Eddie comes out. The jock goes through all of the angst, guilt, rejection and fear that any 14 year old boy would have upon realizing he was "different." However, Disney, in their infinite wisdom, super sanitizes the story so that Eddie comes out as a CHEF instead of GAY. I wont criticize it too much because even this would have been a big stretch for Hollywood five years ago. Cute and entertaining if you don't have much to do. CMC, Sherman Oaks, CA
Eddies Million Dollar Cook-off was a good movie, granted i am older than most of the people that were cast in this movie. I feel that everyone could relate to this movie, like when eddies friends made fun of him for cooking, anyones friends could do that. I think that EMDCO was better than half the disney movies that are on . It shows that girls and guys can do the samething, that guys can cook and girls can play the same sport as guys.It has a good cast good writing and is something that everone should be able to relatable to at one point in their life.
This movie has many flaws and a pretty crappy plot line, but for some reason I liked it. It really bothered me that they showed the identical baseball play 4 times... and that this "baseball prodigy", Eddie, hadn't figured out yet to put his whole foot against the side of first base (maybe I'm just aniel because I play 1st base...). Anyway, besides that, for some reason you like this Eddie dude, even though he has the strangest fetish for cooking. I guess I liked all the characters really... but the plot line and realisticness (is that a word?) was really bad. I would recommend to watch it, its good for a few laughs, especially where he's making his "original recipe", the purple goo bar-b-q sauce. YUM.
