Synopsis

Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta debutó en los cuadriláteros en 1934, pero su leyenda comenzó a tejerse el 26 de julio de 1942 en la legendaria Arena México. Aquella noche el robusto luchador -quien a lo largo de los años hizo carrera bajo los nombres de Hombre Rojo, Enmascarado, Murciélago II y Demonio Negro, entre otros- estrenaba una flamante personalidad debajo de una brillante máscara plateada. Había nacido Santo, el Enmascarado de Plata. La leyenda de Santo nunca fue producto de la casualidad. Su tenacidad y versatilidad en el ring le valieron el respeto de sus contrincantes y la admiración del respetable público que noche a noche llenaba los coliseos en donde el Enmascarado de Plata daba cuenta de sus temibles rivales. Fue rudo y técnico pero, ante todo, fue un peleador honesto que no tuvo que recurrir a trucos ni escándalos para acrecentar su merecida fama. De los cuadriláteros a las pantallas, la ruta que siguió Santo para convertirse en ídolo del cine mexicano lo condujo primero al mundo del comic. Gracias a la inventiva del dibujante y editor José Guadalupe Cruz, Santo fue el primer personaje fantástico de la literatura popular mexicana y uno de los más queridos, junto al legendario Kalimán. El Enmascarado de Plata debió debutar en el cine en 1952. En aquel año, la popularidad de la lucha libre en México iba en aumento gracias a las primitivas transmisiones de este deporte-espectáculo por la televisión. Al mismo tiempo, las historietas protagonizadas por Santo, el Enmascarado de Plata -impresas en aquel inolvidable papel color sepia- invadían los puestos de revistas de todo el país y vendían miles de ejemplares cada semana. Pocos años después, el tiraje de las aventuras de Santo llegaría a más de un millón de revistas semanales.
