The first law of storytelling says that you need a conflict in order to have a story. The question in this film is whether there is enough conflict to maintain sufficient interest through a feature-length production. The film never goes much beyond the basic premise - kids trek into the wild, kids get lost in the wilds, one gets injured. There is more drama and intrigue to the average Readers Digest real-life crisis feature than there is on display here. The scenery is easily the star of the show, and is not always shown to best effect. The scenes of interaction with dangerous animals are badly handled, and the result is strictly a by-the-numbers job. Unless you particularly like one of the actors or simply must see every film in this genre, there isn't much to recommend this.

I used to watch this movie when disney aired it and i love it. Now it's 2004 and i just found it out of a billion movie stores And i haven't seen it in a while and i still love it and intend to buy it. It's got humor, adventure and drama all the things i love in a movie. Great cast, good story-line, Though you never see ones like this anymore. Fun to watch and enjoy. Language may not appeal to some parents but all-all it's a great flick. Acting was wonderful and the area where the movie was shot was beautiful. In the VHS version i think a part was cut out but i'm not sure. There's also alot of familiar faces in the movie. Recommended for a movie night or in my case a rainy day! ~!

Not a bad production [but certainly, not good], and the scenery was splendid, but this was a re-make of a tired old storyline. A group of teens [a couple of which looked 25 or so] head for the mountains for a several days long trek. Naturally things go awry as a terrible tragedy befalls the group. As the gallant crew struggles to overcome their sticky situation, they are hindered by rugged terrain, wild critters, and raging rivers. The only bright spot for them was a mysterious white wolf who appeared when things got really desperate. The mutt didn't really do anything, just hung around lending wolfly moral support, I suppose. Many of the action sequences were choppy, unrealistic formula stuff no different than any other in this genre. The younger set should be able to overlook this and thoroughly enjoy the picture...I couldn't.

I thought that this was a great movie for a younger generation. The plot was good, although it is a typical one, and it was well acted. The landscape was absolutely breath taking, as it showed the true beauty of nature. That alone makes this a movie to see. But over all, this was a great movie that the whole familly can enjoy.
