It's a bad film but it made me laugh and I love redlettermedia so I give it a 7/10.
The film starts out in the future with Space Cop (Rich Evans) spoofing action film cops as he accidently blows up the moon mines with miners in them. Space Cop is inept, clumsy, careless, stupid, lazy, and arrogant. He gets "promoted" to Traffic Space Cop where he finds himself chasing a speeder through a wormhole back in time. He remains "Space Cop" with his gadgets in modern day Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He gets teamed up with Cooper (Mike Stoklasa) a cop from the past who got accidently released from cryro-sleep. They are teamed up as the odd couple cops with bad swagger. The film was designed to be campy and looks like a community TV project, it was done that well. There is only so much stupid Rich Evans can dish out before it gets old. The plot had potential but it feels more like a wasted opportunity as so many of the spoofs were of a generic nature and not directed at various films. Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
Some parts of this are super funny, others mildly amusing, and a few are big misfires, but that's the case with comedy and ultra low budget movies. The camera work, lighting, and sound were very well done and the soundtrack was great but your enjoyment of this is really going to depend on how you put up with Mike's hammy voice. It's a terrible choice and almost ruins the movie. You can get over it after a while and just enjoy the rest, but he really needed to just play it straight because every time he talks, it's a huge distraction and takes you out of what's going on. And this is despite him being my favourite RLM personality. That said, the movie is much better than I was led to believe and pretty fun overall.
This film was so dense, every single image had so much going on. There were lots of hidden easter eggs, you didn't notice it...but your brain did.No but seriously, I did find this legitimately funny. As soon as RLM announced that they would be making this (about 12 years ago) I knew it would be gold...and it was! The sets and props looked appropriately cheesy and the classic RLM humour was all there. I really hope Rich wins an Oscar for his performance here. He certainly deserves it. I hope they do a 'Best of the Worst' episode where they watch this movie, that'd be great...oh and another Plinkett review. YOU HACK FRAUDS!I rate this 10 out of 10 Pizza rolls!
