Roy (2015) is simply one of the best movies to come out of our Indian Film Industry. I loved the concept and the sheer ambitiousness of the plot chosen by the debutante Vikramjit Singh. Sure, the film is a little flawed but I found it fabulous all the same. A meta film, essentially. I thought was watching a European movie, not a Hindi movie. Arjun Rampal and Ranbir Kapoor were absolutely terrific in essaying their parts. Double thumbs up to Kapoor. I thought he was way better here and restrained than he has been in his other films. The scene where Roy and Tia walk through the pier area in Malaysia where he tells her that one day he will leave all this and start a new life and Tia asks him to take her along is absolutely top class. So many other gems. The two scenes between Rampal and Kapoor were the two of the greatest scenes I have seen in a long time. The interval point where Roy's bullet pierces through Rampal's life as he sits forlorn staring at the horizon is genius. Yes, the first half could have been a little crisper. The set up could have been a tad different but overall, the film impressed the socks out of me. Very well done Bollywood. And Singh and Kapoor, I cannot wait for your next. Please oh please don't deviate from the conviction you guys showed in this film. And as for the haters, please learn about cinema. This film has a 3.3 rating on IMDb. Joke. Deserved 7.5+ at least

Why doesn't IMDb has an option of a 0 , if there was this movie deserved it. Seriously the worst movie I've watched , you'll bang your head in theaters walls , its so boring an no story , just trying to make it glamorous but completely failed , the only thing positive was the songs this movie had , the cast , but there were countless negatives , no story , boring , and not understandable , there's a love triangle between the three protagonists and at the end we come to know that there's no ranbir in real life , so basically a complete waste of time and money , i would definitely not recommend this movie to you . i don't know why arjun , jacqueline and ranbir accepted the role for this film , such a flop . don't see it !!!!! its better to sit at home doing nothing rather watch this film , so long yet so boring . they could have made such a fab film but failed .

How is a story conceived? First, the germ is planted. A tiny minuscule seed implanted into our brain and then fed and nourished into a compact story with details from reality. The trigger may be a dream, or an incident or a suppressed memory that the brain wants to heave but the residual has to be what we want it to look like. Despite Roy's devil-may-care attitude we do not fail to notice a kind of melancholia in his demeanor. He constantly talks about fleeing to some other place materializing Kabir's innermost conflicts with dealing with life's realities. The movie might be a little confusing because the indications of segregating reality from vision is minimal. Roy and Tia become the physical manifestations of the creative minds that Kabir and Ayesha has. In a way the movie is a realistic fairy tale of a union of minds, which is by far the best kind of marriage ever. The movie jumps between reality and a Kabir's vision. It is as if he is in a Trans-pseudo- reality sort of mind, where reality and his vision for the movie blend. This movie is all about escaping reality and coming face to face with one's own weakness. This movie is about letting go and accept heartbreak with open arms. This movie is also about merging reality with vision to create art. Little snippets of reality make huge leaps in imagination. It's also about making peace with the past and accepting that co-incidences are just possibilities thrown in to take a different course in life.

This has to be the best Hindi movie I have seen in recent times. This is a very un-bollywood movie so to speak. I understand the majority of the negative review since most of the desi audience and reviewers alike are used to a certain blend of masala movies where one is advised to leave their brains out while watching it. This one is different and keeps us engaged throughout the 2.5 hrs. It's interesting only if one applies some "brain" and try to understand the subtle narrative. I should thank the filmmaker for taking a bold step to make such a "hatke" movie. The movie has a good pace without the usual masala loudness. Some of the songs are out of place .. sorta item numbers trying to attract audience to theater who otherwise wont use their "brain" to watch an interesting movie. But 3 numbers Yaara Re, Boond Boond and Tu Hai Ki Nahi do add to the narrative although not completely sure if the last number was absolutely necessary for the movie. In all have to say this is by far the best movie of 2015 and deserves few awards. For the movie makers, please ignore the negative comments. Desi audience still has to grow out of their Dabanng and other mindless movie culture. You guys have done and excellent job and kudos to you and your talent. It was a pleasure to watch the movie. Thank You
