Steve Austin got run over by a car, Chris Jericho lost to a woman, Big Show won his first WWE Title and Kurt Angle made his in ring debut in an entertaining show. The finish to the No Mercy PPV made it pretty clear that a Triple H vs Rock vs Austin main event was coming here. But they took a pretty interesting path there with the Rock joining forces with Mankind and winning the tag team championship. But Al Snow in what turned out to be an elaborate ruse, convinced Mankind that Rock didn't actually like him. Mankind betrayed the Rock and left him to defend the tag belts on his own against the New Age Outlaws. Snow then arranged for Val venis to interfere in Mankind's WWE Title match with Triple H on RAW, costing him the title. Mankind joined a tag team with Snow and Rock was added to the title match here. The night began with a 4 on 4 Survivor Series match which saw the lower card team of The Godfather, D Lo Brown, Mosh and Thrasher defeat the Acolytes (now the Acolyte Protection Agency or APA) and the Dudleyz. The APA and Dudleyz didn't really get along, and after Mosh was eliminated by a Bradshaw clothesline and Thrasher by a 3D. Bradshaw then got DQ'd for smashing D Lo with a chair, D-Von and Faarooq got in a punch up and were both counted out, leaving Bubbah ray to take a Ho Train and a Lo Down and eat the final pin.Next match saw Kurt Angle make his WWE in ring debut, defeating Shawn Stasiak in a pretty poor match. Angle would go on a long wining streak and within 11 months would win the European, Intercontinental and WWE Championships, as well as the King of the Ring and be in the main event of Summerslam. Quite the first year for Kurt.Next match was a rather dull affair, another 4 on 4 match, which saw Val Venis, Mark Henry, gangrel and Steve Blackman defeat the British Bulldog and the Mean Street Posse. Henry and Venis were the survivors and British Bulldog the last one eliminated.Next up comes a 4 on 4, non Survivor Series tag match which saw Mae Young, the Fabulous Moolah, Tori and Debra defeat Ivory, Jacqueline, Luna and Terri. You know from the names involved that this was a short awful match.Next came the big rivalry match pitting former tag team champions X-Pac and Kane against each other. The match occurred because of jealousy caused by X-Pac winning a 4 man elimination match at the previous PPV. X-Pac had told Kane he wasn't worthy of being part of his DX stable and DX members Triple H and the New Age Outlaws came down and interfered in the match. Kane wins by DQ and then saves his girlfriend Tory from the invading DX.Triple H attacked the Rock while he was giving an interview backstage right before our next match, which saw the Big Show defeat the useless team of Mideon, Prince Albert, Viscera and the Big Boss Man. Boss Man had earned the ire of Big Show by making him think his father had died in a car accident. Amazingly this feud would make it all the way to the main event, but not on this night, Boss Man having the good sense to run away after Show had taken care of Mideon, Albert and Viscera in less than a minute. Originally, Show had a team for this match, but he took them out before the match on Sunday Night Heat.Next up came the segment that, for some, signaled the end of the attitude era, Steve Austin was being interviewed about his title match when Triple H, being an equal opportunity jack ass, attacked Austin, who then pursued Triple H backstage where he was run over by a car, putting him out of tonight's match and indefinitely. Austin was actually taking time off for neck surgery.Next match saw Chyna successfully defend the Intercontinental Championship, defeating Chris Jericho following a low blow. Not a great match.Next up saw the Holly Cousins and Too Cool defeat Edge and Christian and the Hardyz (the Two Broods(?)). The Hardyz and E+C were in a classic tag ladder match at No Mercy where they had developed a respect for each other. This was a pretty good match, with Edge and Matt Hardy leaving early, before Scotty 2 Hotty was eliminated, followed by Jeff Hardy, Christian then took out Grandmaster Sexay and Crash Holly, only for Hardcore Holly to pin Christian with a victory roll to win the match as the sole survivor. The New Age Outlaws retained the WWE Tag Team Championship with a victory over Mankind and Al Snow, with Gunn pinning Foley. Decent match.Brings us to the main event which saw Triple H and the Rock make their way to the ring. Howard Finkel announces that Stone Cold won't be participating in the match, but taking his spot will be: The Big Show! Both Rock and Triple H react to this with a mixture of fear and outrage. DX and the McMahons both interfere in the match. DX costing Rock the title. Vince McMahon then comes to the ring and hits Triple H with the WWE Championship belt allowing Show to hit the Chokeslam, get the pin and become WWE Champion for the first time. So, where is all of this Vince vs Triple H stuff heading? Who will get the first PPV shot at the new champion's title? And could Jericho get that Intercontinental Championship from Chyna? With Steve Austin out, things are going to be very different and it's going to need a reset and a focused direction for the WWE to stay on top with their biggest star gone.

In the end the members of D-X try to come and help Triple H win the match but Vince comes out and hits Triple H with the title which leads to a Chokeslam from Big Show and a pin on Triple H for Big Show to become the new Champion. In other matches. This was an okay ppv with some ups, and some downs. The first match was good. It was fun to see the Acolytes and the Dudleys turn on each other and lose the match. Kurt Angle had his first match in the WWF against Shawn Stasiak. I don't know why he got so much hype before he debuted; his first opponent was Shawn Stasiak for God's sake. The X-Pac, Kane match was a dissapointment. The eight man tag matches were okay, except for the women's (it was too short, in my view and the teams were mis-matched). The IC title match between Jericho and Chyna was great. The WWF title match was good also. Austin getting hit by the car was a little weird, though. I mean, if I saw a car coming at me, I think I'd try to run.
