Trailer Synopsis Cast Keywords

Professor "Johnny Longbow" Salina, a man who really knows his stews, introduces Paul Carlson to the practical-joking Kathy Nolan. Paul and Kathy seem to hit it off rather well but, during a meteor storm, a meteorite fragment strikes Paul, burying itself deep in his skull, which has the unpleasant side-effect of causing Paul to mutate into a giant reptilian monster at night and go on murderous rampages. It turns out that this sort of thing has happened before, when Professor Salina rediscovers ancient Native American paintings detailing a similar event many centuries ago. Kathy, however, still loves Paul, and tries to save him.

An asteroid (aka: a flaming marshmallow) hits the moon (aka: a flashlight)! Pieces thereof shower the Earth, where Paul Carlson digs in the desert. That night, while watching the ensuing meteor display, Paul is hit in the head by something. He also finds a glowing, pulsating rock fragment. So, he does the smart thing and grabs it barehanded, to take home! This gives Paul a chance to introduce his new girlfriend, Kathy (Leigh Drake) to his lizard. Kathy is shocked by the gesture. Paul begins to suffer odd headaches, especially during a concert where a nondescript, hippie combo warbles, "California Laaaaaadyyyyyy" on and on, eternally, so it can eat its way into our souls like acid! Paul's headaches turn into somnambulistic events, scaring his lizard to no end! Paul transforms into... ?? A night of murderous marauding takes place! Still, anything's better than the aforementioned song! Police are baffled, calling in Paul's friend, Johnny Longbow. Longbow is a cooker of chili and teller of Navajo stories. He's also an anthropologist, worried about his lizard-owning friend. Kathy's worried too. Dear lord! Paul's lizard has escaped! Kathy is agog. Is Paul's lizard up to no good? Hmmm. Johnny Longbow is puzzled and deeply concerned. Kathy wears awesome shorts outfits! Is Paul going bananas from being lizard-less? More bloody deaths occur. TRACK OF THE MOON BEAST is prime, 1970's super-cheddar! It features Kathy's immortal utterance, "Moon rock?! Oh, wow!". There's also the hideous transformation sequence, where Paul turns into a toothy raisin! Johnny Longbow looks on, flummoxed, but unbeaten...

Truly terrible movie. It's about this hunky guy named Paul (Chase Cordell) who meets this blonde chick named Kathy (Leigh Drake). They're out in the open one night when a meteor shower hits. Paul gets a small piece of the meteor in his head but doesn't notice. However that night when the moon is full he turns into a giant lizard like creature that kills people.Lousy movie. The story is ridiculous and throws in some Indian legends to the mess. The two leads are certainly attractive people. Cordell is in good shape and has frequent shirtless scenes. Drake has nice legs which are shown often. This is done to hide the fact that neither one can act! They show zero chemistry or emotion. He tries but fails. She doesn't even make an attempt. There were gore scenes in this but they were edited out because it was released direct to TV. The monster makeup is somewhat effective but barely used in the finished movie. Dull, dreary with a lousy script and atrocious acting. Skip it.

If you're looking for a decent monster flick with some gory action, sexy babes, and killer suspense...keep looking. This is a cheap, no-budget drive-in movie that aspires to be nothing more than a diversion. The dialog is just plain ridiculous, such as a legendary moment when a main character pensively recites the secret recipe for Native American stew. But lovers of horror kitsch just may find themselves taken in by this movie's bygone world of avacado-colored furnishings and monster suit shenanigans. I was fully aware I was watching a terrible movie, but did I enjoy it? Hell yeah I did! Hmmm well let's see, the plot has been discussed more than once here, but I'll summarize for the purpose of my own review: Paul, a groovy 70s loner type from the desert meets Kathy, a gorgeous chick who looks like Charlie cut her from the angels. Unfortunately, when he takes her to his favorite stargazing spot hopin' for a little action, a meteor shower ruins their fun by spraying asteroid shrapnel on them. Paul begins experiencing dizzy spells, and yet for a couple of days nobody thinks to take him to the hospital. Instead, Kathy uses it as her moment to pounce and she moves in with Paul, apparently uninvited. Paul, however, has a major problem: when the moon comes up, he now transforms into a murderous giant man-lizard. Paul's best friend and mentor, a teacher named Johnny Longbow (!), eventually catches on and helps both the law and the doctors diagnose Paul's condition. Johnny also helps cause Paul to explode by firing an asteroid-tipped arrow into him during the film's LSD-inspired conclusion.I was really taken in by the vacant atmosphere of this film. It's strangely similar to 1974's "The Bat People", except instead of a giant bat-monster, Paul turns into a giant lizard-monster. The makeup is pretty good, and there are a few moments that generate some mediocre chills. It's all very amateurish though, and you've got to really enjoy movies like that in order to appreciate this one. Buyer beware: you're getting a low rent product when you commit to investing 90 minutes of your life on this film. But if you've got a love for whacked out 70s monster movies, as well as a high tolerance for the ridiculous, then "Track of the Moon Beast" is a must-see.

Pure 70's cheese from beginning to end! Jonnie Longbow our Navajo University Professor is a true pleasure. Paul our tragic hero is a real 70's lunkhead whose just dying to take his shirt off. He lives with his mom and just occasionally turns into a man-sized reptile who feels the need to tear people's arms off and beat them with them. Kathy is our scantily clad day glow wearing starlet who of course falls madly in love with the aforementioned 70's reptile boy Paul. People start dying and the bulky meat-head Sheriff is puzzled. Being a bulky meat-head he decides to enlist Jonnie Longbow's help, together the two try to get to the bottom of the murders. There is a cameo performance from "the Folk Trio Who Sang California Lady", which of course is spellbinding to say the least. Will Paul's secret be discovered? Will Kathy ever find love? Will Jonnie Longbow ever stop telling Navajo fables? Find out when you watch "Track of the Moon Beast". I highly recommend it.
