In the Nevada mountains between Las Vegas and Reno in the desolate nuclear testing grounds of Dreamland (Area 51), a young couple Megan and Dylan stop in a greasy spoon cafe where they learn about the Area 51 government base a few miles away. After they get back on the road, Dylan turns on the radio. The only broadcast he can find is a speech from Adolf Hitler at the 1936 Olympic Games. I've seen a lot of films from all genres and i've read many of the reviews here already and i have to say i agree and i disagree. This is NOT a great film, in fact it's barely even good. The plot is generally good and the twist at the end was fantastic, but i was left thinking at the end 'er, what was all that about?' Many of the references to history were pretty pointless since the film is not actually anything to do with them, the whole time travel idea is a good one, but is hardly used throughout the film. The acting was also a little wooden. I am glad i took the time to watch the film, but would definitely not recommend it or watch it again. I only hope someone else takes the plot and makes a different film with a stronger cast and storyline out of it.

There are some movies that let you know very early on what kind of ride you're in for. Whether it's a whole lot of explosions or a whole lot of dead bodies or a whole lot of laughs, sometimes you just know what you're in for before the whole thing really gets firing up."Dreamland" is one such movie. And what "Dreamland" is letting us in for is the ride of a lifetime--across the desert. With a young couple whose primary hobby seems to be squabbling. After a quick stop at the Little Green Aleinn (sic) for a Beam Me Up Burger and Groom Lake Shake, they get back on the road, and sure enough, all hell breaks loose.Suffice it to say that when Hitler starts screaming at you in German before he steals your car, it's pretty safe to say all hell has broken loose. And that's just the least of it."Dreamland" has a talent for freaky scenes. One noteworthy sequence features only the ground you can see under a flashlight circle. The circle of light moves, and that's all we can see--what's in that flashlight's radius. Every time Megan, our female lead, wakes up from a dream in this movie (she spends a surprisingly large amount of time asleep), she wakes up gasping with her eyes wide as saucers. If you're one of the no doubt large number of people who misses Spooky Mulder and his various adventures, then this is a great way to bridge the gap, o former X-Phile.The ending will not disappoint in terms of sheer freaky--in fact, it will almost go too far and circle back around to comic. All in all, if you're looking for something totally out of left field, not too scary but plenty creepy, then "Dreamland" is going to make your night.

I never comment on a film, but I have to say that this was one of the worst films that I have ever seen. I feel it was made by a beginner film student and not to put down talented film students, but this was horrible! I did not buy the lead actress and felt I was in acting class with her while she was on film. Her decisions were very safe and I feel she was mimicking other actresses in films and not acting and making her own decisions. The direction was very confusing and the sound was louder than the actors themselves. The end may have made a little more sense if there was someone narrating the events and not a song. I love Patsy Cline but she her songs appear quite frequently in films. Maybe the song selection could have been a little more original. The song "crazy" was such a cliché. As I said before I never comment on films and have seen my share of good and bad, but this was the worst. Sorry.

There are some great scary moments in this film that me had jumping right out of my skin several times. I don't want to spoil the film for anyone else but the way the Director built tension using the unknown of the darkness as well the sounds and music, this film really created a consistent Erie mood. There is a blue look to the picture that gives the film a distant feeling, I liked that choice and felt it was a unique look. This is not an easy film to understand, however I did enjoy the the time travel theories that were explored in this film. I have seen comments about David Lynch films here and I saw David Lynch's last film "Inland Empire", Dreamland is a straight forward children's tale compared to how hard it is to understand "Inland Empire". Dreamland feels intuitive to me, much more about mood and flavor, so rigid traditional male minds are going to have much more of problem enjoying this film as it seems evident in the simple minded negative reviews I have seen here. Seems there is little patience for any film that does not resemble all other boring and predictable films that are made nowadays. There is a big change at the end of the film in mood and what you think is going to happen, that was great! Many films I watch you don't need to watch the end because you know how it is going to end up, that did not happen with this film. The end was more sentimental than most sci fi type films, the events at the end were a welcome and refreshing change to the many sci fi and horror film endings I have seen in the past.
