Jean-Marie Straub’s new film closes the circle. The years 1954–2013 are displayed as representing a film produced in collaboration with Danièle Huillet. A man and a woman engaged in a dialogue, talking about their love, as if talking across an abyss. Then, in the last take, the two of them close together, motionless for a long time

Anaïs is twelve and bears the weight of the world on her shoulders. She watches her older sister, Elena, whom she both loves and hates. Elena is fifteen and devilishly beautiful. Neither more futile, nor more stupid than her younger sister, she cannot understand that she is merely an object of desire. And, as such, she can only be taken. Or had. Linda (Carrie Fisher) promised her writer husband, long ago, on a balloon, that she would stick by him if he would put her through law school. Fast Forward. Marriage is not everlasting bliss. Linda, a very successful attorney, is granted a divorce but is ordered to pay substantial alimony to John, the ex, until he should remarry in the future. Linda is somewhat ticked and hires an actress named Kate (Rosanna Arquette) to worm her way into a relationship and eventual marriage to John. Kate is a trooper, a ditzy one, albeit. Could there be a spanner in the works? Those who like light, romantic comedy will enjoy this film. Fisher and Arquette are perfect foils for each other and the rest of the cast is quite capable. Costumes and the Paris ambiance are nice as well and the script has some surprising twists and turns. Never mean spirited, this revenge turns out to be the best medicine for everyone. The same is true for anyone who happens upon this film at the video store or library.

Very relaxing movie, I've seen it a couple of times, and every time I feel entertained. Rosanna Arquette is great, she has a great french accent and she dominates through the movie and Fisher with her presence completes the movie. It is an old movie, and if you catch it on TV, if you watch it, you wouldn't waste time.Carrie Fisher is a great actress and this movie shows how good she can be in a romantic movie. She uses her calmness, her dignity and her pride to show us how a woman with broken heart could retrieve what she thinks that belong to her.Maybe this movie didn't get much credit, but it's nice when you see a movie that puts a smile on your face.

Rosanna Arquette is at her MOST appealing in this film. I've been infatuated with her ever since she made a guest appearance in a dream I had years ago. Set in Paris, this predictable little love story/comedy is a nice diversion. It's warm and cuddly (in the romantic parts anyway). The supporting cast helps A LOT to hold "Sweet Revenge" together.I just realized a common thread to another movie I commented on, "Garbo Talks". Carrie Fisher plays an assertive, aggressive (nee bitchy) soon-to-be/and ex-wife in both. She gives a remarkably scary performance as the angry woman in both. Her character in "Sweet Revenge" is much more multi-dimensional. She is allowed to be pitied at times and redeem herself somewhat at the end. But, I still wouldn't mess with her (movie or real world).GOOD MOVIE FOR A RAINY AFTERNOON.......
