Mani Ratnam and his films have always been a subject of notice, be it BOMBAY,ROJA.etc, Even DIL SE was praised though it flopped YUVA was also an important film cos it gave Abhishek Bachchan an authorbacked role when his career was slowly picking up but yet needed that push. The film however didn't work at the B.O. and won brickbats by many critics like Taran Adarsh who praise films like Main Hoon Naa which released that year. The film is divided in 3 chapters which are linked and the film speaks about politics in colleges and how the events involve all 3 characters. The film starts with Abhishek's story which is well handled, while Vivek's love story is not too compelling yet it's good, Ajay's story could be better, his romantic track could be avoided, what also disturbs is Ajay doesn't look a college student. The romantic tracks could be avoided though as they stagnate the main story. Also the going ons get slowpaced in second half and also things do get predictable, The climax however has a superb fight scene involving all 3 shot on a busy road. Direction is good but writing at times could be better Music is decent, the songs were good and well interwoven,Anjaana is a good song, Kabhi neem too is good rest are okayAbhishek Bachchan steals the show and is superb, he plays the uncouth character very well, this was a turning point in his career though at times his effort is too evident but yet it's a superb performance Madhavan played the same role in the tamil version however even though he was better but Abhishek too is superb. Ajay Devgan however doesn't look a student and his performance is good but his track could be better.Vivek Oberoi is superb, he plays his part very well and doesn't overact, this was his next film after MASTI Amongst heroines Rani Mukherjee is superb, she nails her part brilliantly,Kareena Kapoor and Esha Deol are good but their roles are not demanding Vijay Raaz is awesome,Sonu Sood is terrific, Om Puri is good as the evil stereotypical politician rest are okay
I love Mani Ratnam films. Especially the love films. I just this movie in Zee channel. I saw a Telugu film (Sainikudu) two days back with the same message (youth to enter & clean politics). With that movie still fresh in my mind, I throughly enjoyed this one.+ Points: cast, acting, editing, screenplay, acting, music, climax - Points: camera (at some places)The film is authentic, glamorous, purposeful and doesn't waste anyone's money & time. I was disappointed when MR's DilSe failed at Box office and is not as good as Bombay. But now I am happy that Yuva has filled the gap. I got a feeling like the entire cast came competing with others to grab the roles and also competed with each other while giving the performances. Despite having 6 leading bollywood stars in the movie, there is not a scene where an actor's image outside the story felt. This movie, like Swades, suggests youth especially the upper middle class to consider staying back in India and help the society. I liked the message.
Wow! what was that!! this will come out from you once u watched this movie.Mani Ratnam has made a movie which will be a favorite for me 4evr!His control on the direction is simply superb and he has explored the true n real characters out of his star-cast.But my best character is Lallan played by Abhishek(hottest star in bollywood!).Perfect to bring out the brutal and wild shades in a negative role and its only after this role, he has got recognized by evry1.Kareena as the love interest of Arjun is looking too hot and her secret lies in her hair-style! (ok, i'm getting biased but i truly like her skin!)Another best part about this movie was its music.AR Rehman has done wonders in giving trance cum more hip music specially for the young listeners. The movie didn't do well in the box office as they just didn't publicized it well.Sad but true.Another sad part was the role played by Vivek as Arjun. From start till the end, he has got beaten up all the time!Any how,Yuva is one of the best Indian movies that I can proudly recommend it to any1. The linking of 3 diff parallel running stories at the end is the best part of this movie.Ratnam is agn doing a movie with Abhishek named 'Guru' and people who have seen the promos, r going gaga abt it!
