This episode starts with the stabbing death of a woman after an intense argument with her estranged husband. This sets several situations in motion. One is a beautiful daughter who is left alone. The next has to do with her father who is fearing for his life because two weird people have surveillance video of the murder. Meanwhile, Kurt is getting more and more forgetful, exhibiting symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. The acting in this episode is really good. Kristen Henriksson is wonderful again as the intense Wallander. HIs peers are worried about him but don't know what to do. His daughter, Linda, begins to worry about his appearing late for things. The drinking doesn't help much either. Anyway, this is a look at what a man will do to straighten up things that he has caused. Kurt's situation somewhat parallels the actions of the absentee father, and that is scary to him. Well done.

In the opening scene we see a woman arguing with her husband; she states that she won't give him the divorce he wants and that she will ruin him; later that night she hears a noise at home and when she goes to investigate she is stabbed to death. The next day her body is found on the beach. Rather strangely the crime was witnesses by somebody watching a surveillance camera that had been installed in the house but rather than inform the police he and his female accomplice set about blackmailing her husband. Wallander is soon on the case and he is trying to help the woman's daughter; she hasn't spoken to her father in over a year and isn't keen to see him again now. Meanwhile Wallander is starting to forget things; it looks as though his leaving his sidearm in a bar in the opening episode might not have been due to drink.This episode may not have been quite as bleak as the previous one but it was still pretty downbeat due to Wallander's worsening memory; Krister Henriksson does a fine job depicting his worsening condition. The rest of the cast were pretty good too; especially Hedda Stiernstedt who put in a good performance as the fragile daughter, Amanda. The mystery itself was fairly interesting; there were plenty of suspicious characters; most notably the husband and the two blackmailers and the daughter's boyfriend's cold behaviour made him a bit odd given what had happened. Once again Linda Wallander ended up in danger in the final scenes although thankfully this time she saved herself rather than being rescued in the nick of time again. Overall this was a good episode although at the end I was more concerned about our protagonist's health than the resolution of the case.
