MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH is a short film released by Kevin Tancharoen (Director) in 2010. It was originally made as a proof of concept for Tancharoen's pitch to Warner Brothers for a reboot movie franchise. This 8-minute short features an intricate fight scene choreographed by Larnell Stovall. It also reintroduces classic Mortal Kombat characters, including: Jax (Michael Jai White), Sonya Blade (Jeri Ryan), Johnny Cage (Matt Mullins), Scorpion (Ian Anthony Dale), Baraka (Lateef Crowder) and Shang Tsung (James Lew).

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first saw this but I have to say that eight minutes later when I was done, I was really impressed. This small piece gathers everything that should be expected from a game adaptation, even if we're speaking about a more somewhat alternative universe. The effects are quite good and the plot is really interesting. It's to bad we don't actually have a bigger movie after this that would follow the plot on this short one.
When I first saw the thumbnail for this on youtube, I was intrigued. Being a fan of this game series since the original, I was very interested in seeing a new live action take on the characters. Not one second of this video disappointed me. I still watch it today. I was already a fan of Michael Jai White and this short only further cemented that, as well as made me a fan of Ian Anthony Dale, though his character's portrayal is so much better in the web series that followed this. Most of the negative reviews for this will be die-hard zealots no doubt, claiming sacrilege for the handling of the source material. I, however, applaud this short film for what it is: a short MK film for fans made by a fan. If you haven't yet, see it.
Being that this a short film and normally I don't always go for short films but this one I'll be glad to make an exception.Mortal Kombat: Rebirth is mostly a short film that Director Kevin Tancharoen made to get funding for a reboot Mortal Kombat film but in a different style. Now many fans will be interest to see how they change the stories of these characters that they played as.The film started with Jackson Briggs (Played by Michael Jai White) going into a interview room with a man in the shadows, an assassin named Hanzo Hasashi aka Scorpion (Played by Ian Anthony Dale) as Briggs explain why Hanzo is in custody of the police.Sonya Blade (Played by Jeri Ryan) appears to help Hanzo with a offer he couldn't refuse. Now what makes this film special is the way it is filmed. The film does a great job with using the lighting and settings. It feels like it was inspired by Batman. The story of the film is interesting as if this would be a good interesting reboot of the films like a origin story. There is a tense fight scene between Baraka and Johnny Cage, the timing of the fight is very good.Acting level in this film is very good as well each actor they cast with Jeri Ryan, Ian Anthony Dale and Michael Jai White doing a very well done job as their characters Sonya Blade, Scorpion and Briggs.Overall if you are curious about this film check it out even Mortal Kombat fans will say it is good enough to make a film a full one.I give Mortal Kombat: Rebirth an 8 out of 10GET OVER HERE!
Being that this is a short film, I think that this is hands down the coolest MK movie out. The only thing that annoys me is that there is no Lui Kang but I can deal with that. What the people that made this short film did was awesome and I really hope that it gets made into a full length movie. There aren't any supernatural elements in this flick yet and there is no mention of out-world by any means, however, that doesn't mean that they aren't there. Keep in mind this is a short film and there is a possibility that it's going to be made into a full length film, if that happens then I hope they add the supernatural element in there and bring up out-world in someway but I think this film is tits
