The story of Father and Daughter is the perfect example of the relationship and connection a parent can have with their child told trough a beautifully crafted story. After the father leaves from the daughter's life you witness the life of the daughter and her growth trough her bicycle and the last place she saw her father. I found the story touching and beautiful, told in a simple story form, visually. Even without the presence of dialogue anybody can follow the story and fully understand what is happening. I believe a story told like this can be just as if not more challenging than a story told trough multiple forms of communications. A storyteller that can make the audience follow his/her story and make them receive certain feelings with minimum need for multiple platforms of communication is a storyteller to be praised. The music goes perfectly with the flow and tone of the story added much more to the visuals of the film. The animation is also very unique. I almost felt as if I was watching a shadow puppet play. Even though the characters we're nothing but shadows, I felt no different than watching a colored animation. This film reminds me of my connection with my parents, not knowing what I would do if one of them left from my life. This movie is definitely worth a watch and is more than worthy of all its praise.
A little girl goes to the seaside with her father, who then departs alone in a rowboat. He doesn't return, so the girl keeps coming back to the same place to wait for him. We see instances from her life as she grows older, makes friends, build a family etc. all centred on the absence of the father. This beautifully-made animated short has a simple but expressive art style, and uses a very restrained and subdued colour palette composed mainly of white and shades of brown. No words are ever spoken, and the piano-based music feels like it's from one or two centuries ago. This produces an effect that is primarily one of melancholy. The repetitive nature of the story conveys the senses of loss and absence powerfully, and the way the passage of time is woven into the story -indicated by such things as transformations in the landscape (such as the change of seasons), in the protagonist's appearance and in the circumstances surrounding her- reinforces the melancholic mood. This is not a film to watch for a surprise-filled story as the story that is there is very compact and there are no surprises. Instead, it's one to watch for to appreciate the visual aesthetics and to "savour" the mood.
A young girl accompanies her father on a bike trip to a lake before he parts away from her on a boat following one last hug. Unable to accept his departure, we see her returning there at every stage of her life in hopes of seeing him again. In just two lines this would be the summary of the rightfully entitled short film "Father and Daughter". However, as simple and short as it may seem, the underlying message and means of storytelling are unexpectedly very powerful. The film successfully represents the passing of time and the inability to ever completely forget and come to term with the death of a close one. But the strongest aspect of "Father and Daughter" for me is that all these points are expressed solely with the help of image, sound, and music. For instance, how the turning wheels of the bicycle are used as a metaphor for the years going by. I was particularly touched when the daughter, now a grandmother, finally gets off her bike to go back one last time to the lake. She just cannot seem to be able to make it stay up and it keeps on falling, announcing the bittersweet ending. The wheels cannot turn anymore because her own time has come now too, and she is able to meet her father again. Lastly, I also enjoyed the nostalgic feeling of the music used, which really helped to set the mood. If you have eight minutes to spare, I highly recommend this short and touching film!
This is one of the most touching movies I have ever seen. the eternal love between father and daughter is well expressed in this movie. It seems that the adverse weather conditions reflect her inner world. In spite of poor weather, she visits again the place st the cliff to wait her father's return, for example. I think riding in the bad weather emphasize everlasting true love for her father, I was very impressed with the last bit of the story. Musics in this movie is also so touching and beautiful. We can't know why her father had to go, where he had gone in detail. There is no explanation. I think that this fire our imagination all the better because this movie is a type of a movie with body movements and an expression and music, not dialogue. The reason why her father disappeared depend on our imagination. This is very interesting if you watch this movie, you will never forget this story.
