Novella McClure is like most struggling actresses in Los Angeles: she's in her early 30s, her fake name sounded cooler ten years ago, and she hasn't landed a role in three years. To top it all off, she's developed a disturbing habit of eating her own flesh. Novella desperately tries to hide her strange condition from her motherly landlord, Eesha, and somewhat psychopathic best friend, Candice, but her body and mind continue to deteriorate in the depressing world of failed auditions and sketchy night clubs. Can a romantic relationship with her psychiatrist prevent her from self destruction? Or will her fatal habit continue to eat away at her?

Struggle to make it as an actress, Novella spirals into depression and develops a habit of eating her own flesh. The synopsis might remind some of that brutal french film 'In my Skin', both with themes of self-mutilation but they are quite distinctive in terms of style and tone. The opening sequence with Jeffree Star's 'Beauty Killer' playing shows our protagonist getting dressed and ready. Turns out Novella (played brilliantly by Meggie Maddock) has her fair share of failed auditions as an actress while trying to make ends meet. Her friend Candice (Ali Frencis) offers her temporal solace by taking her out for drinks. The film exudes a kind of kitsch vibe throughout, with bright wallpapers from the room of Novella's to the neon lights of sleazy clubs. The film is self-aware of that and plays it in an almost comical fashion, contrasting with what's to come. After an unpleasant encounter with strangers in the club, we've come to learn that Candice herself is a bit of a haywire. With unpaid bills and false hopes, Novella slowly descends into self-loathing and finds an outlet for it in grotesque ways...by eating her flesh. The practical effects are well made and definitely not for the squirmish. Even horror fanatics may find some of the scenes repulsive. It is illogical, unrealistic but I find myself rooting and sympathizing for Novella to get out of her flesh eating cycle. May not be for everyone, but memorable scenes and characters makes this worth watching
Novella is an aspiring young actress who wants to advance and get a more important role in her career, so she goes to an audience but there are other girl who aim at the same purpose. Troubles begin when she discover some king of skin disease at her foot and arm and this will aggravate her path to success. Lucky for her that she has a friend who is along her when she needs but this may not be enough to solve all her problems. I like this sort of a different idea put in a movie and although at first it seems like it's going to be a bad movie, with the good sound and camera work makes it to be better along with the acting witch is decent and overall it is a watchable film in comparison with others with a bizarre story or a boring one, this one keeps it plain and simple. An unpopular horror with unknown actors who deserves more attention because I never seen a more unique movie like this one.
5 of 10. Had the post-credit scene happened at the end of the film, I'd give it another point. After a film like this, however, it's asking a lot for people to stick around through the credits and the film really needs some form of release after grueling gore and tension. The main problem is that the writer really needed a skilled director rather than serving as both. While the actors did what they could with the script, the casting for several of the key characters was off and could have easily been switched. The other part of it that wasn't setup well was the psychological element. Too often, it felt like unbelievably stupid characters rather than a mental disorder. It's not a B-film because of the special FX, which was very believable and didn't look cheap. It's B because of the writing/directing that made many scenes feel like TV soap opera melodrama, unlike a recent smoother, more finished blood-gore film Julia (2014).
WOW! This movie was just something else. Its a very well put together flick. You saw both the main characters spiral into lunacy. I got the feeling at end that her "friend" was the cause of all the problems she was having, like she said everyone in her life was using her. Her friend controlled her life and its kinda like what's that saying, a dog will bit his leg off to get free of his chains. ( that's the way I remember it lmao!) So that's what I am taking from this movie. Now the ending, I have different ideas on that but movies rarely have such good endings that I won't blow it up. This movie was very different than any that I've seen with this level of gore. The story and acting was well done . Its not many movies that make me turn my head to avoid the scene but the visuals are just a tad too brutal(I can't believe I said that!) It gets really disgusting at parts, I am not gonna lie to you but its, how can I put this, not tacky gore. Its just part of story, can you get my meaning? It really was a good flick, it was just a random viewing which I thought would be super stupid based on the summary but it worked. Give it a watch based on the summary itself, how many times do u get see self cannibalism?
