Im really interested in low or no budget movies that provides a genuine feeling and atmosphere. The silent house is an excellent example, because despite its flaws, it offers an original atmosphere at a minuscule budget. Another film (a short film you can watch for free on youtube)that does offer a lot of emotion in a horrifying, but comically painful way is Phantom miscarriage. Five across the eyes don't really give me anything! The story is simple, a couple of young girls, get lost, bumps into a strangers car by accident and escapes. Pretty soon they are chased by a maniac woman who tries to kill them. A typical slasher story. Its nice that the creators of this film have made an attempts to create something unique, but wiggly camera angles, bad acting, and a plot not worked through enough gives me nothing. I saw a bunch of amateur movies made by media students, while I was studying drama, and these movies ware far better. Every scene should be worked through in a good movie. The purpose for the scene, the camera angles for the scene, and the actors should have enough time to get into character no matter how bad they are. What the movie really lacks is suspense, effects that are worked through, and a feeling of realism. They had the intent to create something, but failed. Oddly enough they worked hard enough to get the movie released!
This film has zero Identity. Zero common sense and Zero Nudity for a horror, torture slasher flick. OK, so, I saw this at Fry'e for like 5 bucks so I cant be that bummed but considering the box has tons of positive remarks from the likes of SlasherPool.com, Fangoria, Bloodydisgusting and EatMyBrains I thought, what the heck, why not. I am doing research for my film, lets give it a try. Starts out promising enough, 5 chicks on the way home who get bad directions from some guy we never meet. Some crazed woman(this is the only thing cool about it) starts hunting them down. Nothing ever revealed. No answers. No common sense from the 5 chicks and we never get to see the torture really, only know that it happened. If your going to do that kind of film making, then the story better be good and the tension has to be paramount which this film failed on all levels. Sorry that the reviewers from all those horror fandom places were so positive, it is false hope people. False hope.
I never finished this movie for a reason, it was dreadful and thats just the acting. I wasn't even sure what the film was about tbh it didn't make a lot of sense and the violence was awful. I mean ususally i like some nude in a film (lol) but it was just sick because of what was happening. ALL the characters annoyed me and it was just full of loud screams and the camera was shaking at parts and it looked like a sequel to the blair with project but without any good qualities. This is one of the worst movies i have seen in a long time and would like my time back please. i wouldn't recommend this film to anyone or even consider it. (N)
Its a shame that some of you don't recognize brilliance when you see it. Five Across The Eyes is a horror movie masterpiece! It is by far the best horror movie ever made! The end!!! It is the only horror movie that can successfully disturb and horrify me every time I watch it. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched it and the tool box scene makes me sick to my stomach every time! The Blair Witch cinematography is brilliant. It made me feel like I was watching actual real footage and not just some crappy bigger budget Hollywood movie like The Strangers for instance. Or the horrendous remake of Friday the Thirteenth. Both of which are terrible terrible movies. But the cinematography in Five Across The Eyes makes it feel totally realistic. I believed what I saw on the screen was actually happening. And that made it all the scarier and completely pulled me into the film from beginning to end.At first the acting seems like it might not be that good but that is not the case. As the movie progresses the acting by the girls felt so natural that I forgot that I was watching actresses and the five girls became real people to me. And that made me genuinely like and care about them and root for their survival. And Veronica Garcia as the deranged woman that is terrorizing these poor girls is absolutely mind blowing! She is the most psychotic and sadistic villain ever to be seen in a horror movie! There are not enough good things I can say about this movie. The musical score and soundtrack is great. The song that plays when the girls finally exact their revenge is perfect. The cinematography is brilliant. The acting is natural and believable. The dialogue is good and often times funny. The ending is brilliant! This is the only horror movie I've ever watched that left me completely satisfied at the end. It is the epitome of what a horror movie should be and it proves that you don't need a huge budget to make a masterpiece.
