I have been a fan of hong kong cinema for a long time mainly in the popular genres like : martial art,action,crime,fantasy but not much in the horror because i always view hong kong horror movie is too silly and full of slapstick humor so i never take it seriously until this night.When i first time watch a CAT III hong kong horror movie called: The Untold Story that made my jaws dropped,my whole body shaking and trembling with nervous for a long time since i was a extreme horror lover and love to find something that really excite me but also make me disgusted and you guys know what? This movie did a great job at it.For a CAT III horror movie this movie has it all from extreme gory violence that testing our limit to over the top acting with darkly humor mix with highly disturbing twist about woman raping,police brutality and cannibalism then leave us with a unsatisfied ending but fit the violent nature of the movie.A big thumb up to Anthony Chau-Sang Wong for portraying one of the best serial killer in movie ever from the face,the look,the disturbing behavior and cold blooded attitude to the fact that this movie based on a true story just makes me questing our sanity about which is right and which is wrong when we leaving in a world that this kind of stuff can happen ?

Consensus view: ugly, bleak, grueling slasher film about sick restaurant owner in Macau mincing his victims into pork buns, given really strange comedic pizazz by a group of daft incompetent cops on the trail. Smudge of social commentary near the end, when the cops cannot properly solve the case by gathering clues they turn into torturers themselves.Digging a little deeper, I believe it works the way it does because of the particular way we are situated inside the story: we only spend time with the killer as he maims and mutilates. Our primary focus is on the incompetent investigation, itself a source of ironic amusement exactly because we are two steps ahead; we know exactly what is going on and have to wait for them as they play catch-up. Every dimwitted joke is someone's limbs hacked off down the road.Our killer is messy and an amateur, the law enforcers perhaps even more. The police captain is always cavorting with hookers. The result is a chaotic universe without moral value or clear demarcations. How better to exemplify a corrupt, absent law than by increasingly depraved violence recast as the darkest of comedies?

The Untold Story is part of a sub-genre called Category III (abbreviated: CAT III), CAT III is a certificate given by the Hong Kong film censors to films that features extreme violence or excessive sexual content. The most notorious CAT III movies, are the ones made in Hong Kong. The Untold Story is based on an actual murder case that happened in Macau. Plot: Severed body parts are found at the Macau Bay, the police investigates and all the evidences leave to the "Eight Immortal restaurant", the cops suspects of Wong-Chi Hang, a man who escaped from Hong Kong after committing a gambling-related murder. The violence is taboo-breaking and bloody, the special effects are good, but i can't tell you how they are realistically shocking. The most sadistic scene is probably the one where Chi-Hang rapes and murders a woman, by shoving some chopsticks up her lower parts.... This movie features a excellent performance by Anthony Wong, as Wong Chi-Hang the serial killer, Anthony even won a best actor award for this movie (100% deserved !). Recommended for CAT III beginners or for who is tired of the same Hollywood "shocking movies".

For those of us who dwell on the long and seemingly endless plateau of run of the mill slasher movies, exploitation films and shockers, you know what I mean when I say that things get a little boring. Everything you see, you've seen before. Things that once made you cringe now make you smirk. And things that once repulsed you can now be viewed with popcorn in hand...or pork buns.Let me tell you, this movie is disgusting. I have seriously seen my share and this one might be the worst of the worst. Throughout the first hour or so of the film, you get a mix of dark humor, slapstick comedy, and gore. It seems like a cross between "The Story of Ricky" and "Dead Alive." Considering the year it was made, it seems pretty average. Then comes the ending. During the last half hour of "The Untold Story," I think I actually considered turning it off. The story takes an insane turn for the worse as Chang tells the tale of his murder. Shown on camera are scenes of such graphic and disturbing violence, I have to commend the filmmakers at least a little for having the balls to do it. One thing is for sure: I only need to see this movie once.I didn't realize films like this were made in the 1990's. Wow!!! 8 out of 10, kids.
