I am not too big on the DC/Marvel Universes nor am I really fond of the 'super-hero' genre although I do dabble from time to time if I'm in the mood...I found Gotham Knight to be rather a refreshing take on Batman and it kept my attention despite everything I mentioned above. It's a 6 story anthology collection, with each one varying in animation style and overall approach (although) loosely intertwined. I fully found them all to be engaging with the exception of the 3rd installment which I found to be the weakest link of the 6. I really appreciated the varying animation styles and the overall dark(ish) tone which I always find a positive, especially in dealing with these (DC/Marvel) universes which are generally too sugar-coated for my taste. So all in all I could imagine perhaps some hardcore fans not enjoying it too much (I'm not sure), but I fully enjoyed it and found it it a rather refreshing and interesting approach to a genre that has really beaten a dead horse.
This movie was very great it has everything you need to know before the Dark Knight came out.I liked the fact that this movie had 6 segments and was based on one movie I am going to review each of them individually:Have I got a story for you: This segment is about four kids making up stories on how they met Batman. But when the man in black attacks them one of them gets the credit. Overall a good segment. 7/10Crossfire: This segment is about Jim Gordon assigning two of his cops to transport Jacob Fleey to jail. Which ends up in a crossfire with them and a gang which Batman defeats. Overall a great segment. 8/10Field Test: I don't remember much of this segment apart from them playing golf. Worst segment. 3/10In Darkness Dwells: This segment is about Batman rescuing a holy man from scarecrow with the help of the police. The voice of the Scarecrow was a miscast but a great segment. 7/10Working Through Pain: This segment starts off at a gruesome point where Bruce is in India and he is patching up a wounded man. But later on, he gets help from a woman called Casandra to help him through his pain. Overall great segment. 7/10Deadshot: Finally this is the best segment in the film. This one is about Batman stopping Deadshot from a crime. The best scene was when he and Batman were fighting on a train. 10/10Overall this was a great film with a great cast of voice actors and good anime/animation style. It looked like if the anime style for Death Note and the animation from Batman the animated series got mixed into a paint mixture and made the animation for this film. I would say watch this instead of the current DC animated films we have got. (New 52 movies)My overall score on this film 7/10
Batman Gotham Knight is the second film in the DC animated direct-to-DVD line-up. Superman Doomsday was the first in that line-up. While, I did not find it great, I was entertained by the film. I overall thought it was okay. Gotham Knight, however, I was very disappointed with. Since I liked Superman Doomsday, I had high hopes that the creators would learn from their mistakes with that film, and this movie would be better. However, what I got was a very disjointed mess.Gotham Knight is six separate stories in one film. Honestly, that is probably the biggest problem with the film. There is no wrap around where all the stories tie in. The stories are very self-contained. This does not feel like a complete film.To make it worse half of the stories are uninteresting and also poorly animated. A different animator worked on each story. In some stories the animation was great, but in other, it is mediocre or just bad.I'm not a fan of "I've got a story to tell you," "Field Test," or "Working Through Pain." I'm not a fan of the animation and I do not find the stories engaging. When those stories were playing I was wanting to fall asleep. I do like "Crossfire," "In Darkness Dwells," and "Deadshot." I liked the animation and the action scenes. So all-in-all the stories are a very mixed bag.The voice acting was good. Kevin Conroy comes back to voice Batman, which is a plus. He is easily one of the best aspects about the film. The animation is a mixed-bag, like I mentioned earlier. The action is also a mixed bag. In some stories the action is good, but in others it is boring.Overall, I'm going to have to say that you should skip this one. There are many better animated Batman movies to check out like Mask of the Phantasm, Return of the Joker, Under the Red Hood, etc.
When Christopher Nolan's, "The Dark Knight", was being released, Warner Bros. Animation and some Anime studios (Including Madhouse and Production I.G.) worked on an anime anthology film similar to other anime anthology films like, "The Animatrix" and "Halo: Legends".Pro's: The film has some great animation and the voice acting was great especially having Kevin Conroy returning as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Also, some of the segments were interesting including the segment, "Walking through the Pain". It follow's Bruce Wayne traveling to India to learn how to control pain from a girl.Con's: The segment's, "Have I got a Story for you" and "Field Test", were boring.Overall, "Batman: Gotham Knight", is a great Anime flick and worth watching if you're into Anime or a fan of Batman.
