An American prisoner in a Russian jail is given a chance at freedom if he can rescue a kidnapped American woman. Direct Contact is everything you could ask for a slow Sunday Night and Dolph Lundgren brings on the pain and the action for sure. This movie is pretty action packed from start to finish and the storyline although lacks alot of originality and all? it was pretty nice. It's not a movie for everyone and i know that and i respect it of course but if you wanna have fun? See it it's not really that bad as some reviewers make it sound like. (7.5/10)

****SPOILERS*** Whatever you expected from a Dolph Lundgren action film, he doesn't make any others, you get here in "Direct Contact" and a lot more. Especially the ending sequence where Dolph as ex-special forces man Lucky Mike Riggens sends the films villain Clive Connelly, Michael Pare, to his final resting place in what looked like a million pieces! Recruited by Connelly, who looked so sleazy that you knew right away that he was up to no good, who claimed to work for the US Government out of a Balkan prison serving time for gun running. Mike is promised $200,000.00, about a third for what he's pied to star in the movie, to get American Ana Gale, Gina May, out of a unnamed, because no one can pronounce or spell it, ex-USSR country on the Black Sea coast. As Mike soon finds out Anne is there on her own free will working for the US Government, which Connelly is not, helping to provide for and medical aid the sick poor as well as undernourished people in the country. As we so find out it's Ana's evil Uncle Trent, James Chaike, who's behind all this who want's Connelly to get Ana, after he kidnaps her, to sign away her majority ownership rights to her deceased father's multi billion dollar arms and munition corporation and give it over it him. It takes a while for Dolph or better yet Lucky Mike to realize that, he's too busy trying to figure out a way to bed down Ana, to notice that! But by the time Mike gets the message to what Connally has in store for both him & Ana he hits the panic or speed button and let it all out. In a number of car chases bar fights and explosions that makes us watching forget just what a really bad and ridicules, but not at all boring, movie "Direct Contact" really is.Despite almost pushing 60, he was 52 when he made the movie, Lundrgen looks in tip top shape as well as being believable in the many action scenes that he's in. There's a scene in the film where Lundgren takes his shirt off, which I suspect all the women watching the movie were just dying to see, and he looked in far better shape then even Arnold Schwarzenegger looked at the same age or even ten years younger.

It is a mediocre B-category movie, nothing more... The plot lacks reality and is full of goofs, supposed moments, shootings at random and product placement (especially cars). Almost all the locals (incl. police) are blunt and bloodthirsty; the events take place clearly in Bulgaria, but the US Embassy is in Luka for some reason.Lundgren looks tired and old already, May is just-another-thriller-chick, but Chalke as Trent Robbins is really awful. His lines are just for show, his character is not truthful (especially in final scenes).Watchable for those fond of chases, explosions and shootings, but even Lundgren has starred in much better movies. If you have a choice, pick something else to watch.

Direct Contact: 6 out of 10: This is one of the most action packed movies I have ever seen. Keep in mind the action is not always good and the script certainly writes checks that the budget cannot cash. In addition, Dolph Lundgren gives the best performance in the film… However, one cannot deny that compare to those bloated (in more than one-way mind you) Segal films like Driven to Kill; this is a fit, fast and fun ride.Dolph starts the film in an eastern European prison but is released to rescue an American girl from a concentration camp located just east of a World War 2 film. (Direct Contact takes place in modern times but both the camp commander, and the camp victims, would not be out of place in Schindler's List as done by Full Moon Productions.) Bashar Rahal plays camp commandant General Drago with such a silly vigor, that when he shoots children in the head you just cannot help but laugh. Not to mention the fact that any character with the name General Drago belongs in a film with either Lightsabers or Dragons, not Fiddler on the Roof extras being mowed down by machine guns.Gina May plays the American girl, whom is much easier on the eyes than she is the ears. Her acting could have been improved with more nudity and less dialogue: much less dialogue. The rest of the cast is Michael Pare, random Bulgarians or James Chalke who gives the kind of horrible performance that makes one wonder if he financed the entire film. Now back to the reason to watch the film: the action. Dolph is in good shape and makes a surprisingly agile action star. Moreover, even though Bulgaria has no native word for continuity, it is a country that, for a couple of bucks, you can drive tanks through buildings downtown like some sort of Goldeneye road show.Overall, I enjoyed the film more than I should have. Lord knows it could have been better. However, as the good lord above also knows, it could have been a lot worse. Direct Contact may commit countless cinematic sins but it is never less than entertaining.
