I am a big fan of Wesley Snipes, and I watched this because he was in it. I thought it had to be a good movie because Wesley Snipes was in it, but this is one of the worst movies I have ever watched. No plot, no story line, and bad acting. I thought that at least Wesley Snipes would make it some what watchable, but his presence did nothing to enhance this movie. I keep watching knowing it would get better after a slow start, but this was not the case. Horrible, do not waste your time.
First off, I am a huge Blade fan. I own them all and watched the final two in the theaters. I actually had a blade stand up in my college apartment(my brother got it from the Blade 2 promotion because he managed a movie theater at the time.) That is how much I like the Blade series!! So, to see Westley Snipes in the Wild West looking oh so Blade like had me pumped. Well pretty much right off the bat you quickly realize that this is no Blade 4. WS still had the look but the movie jumped around excessively and it was one of the most difficult movies I have ever watched when it came to just understanding what was the main character's motivation and what was he fighting against exactly. I gave the movie a 4 because I actually watched it twice because I had so many unanswered questions. During the second viewing I was able to understand just a few of the movies details I had missed during the first watch because there are just things that happen in the story line that do not make sense no matter how many times you watch it.I will just say that the movie had awesome potential and actually had a somewhat original plot. The men WS faces have been described as zombies and they look like vampires except that they really do not have any special abilities or powers. If anything they have a major weakness...they need new skin every week or so. WS's movie mother makes a pact with a devil like being ( no explanation given) to raise him from the dead when he is killed avenging his lover's rapers. But when he kills people some of them come back to life so they hang people from the gallows and then take their skin to wear.I guess my point is that this could have been so much more. If a few changes were made and the movie's editing was not some of the all time worst who knows..it might have been enough to give Snipes' career a real shot in the arm.On a side note it was cool seeing Diamond Dallas Page in the film as the notorious "SkullBucket."
First of all, whoever watches a film because of W.Snipes acting skills must be bonkers! He is literally the worst thing of this, besides the script! This is a weird western gorefest with VERY nice practical effects with far and few lame cgi in it, with a colourful set of characters (the main villain has some hilariously goofy quips) the and a pacing that's too slow. Beautifully shot, nice composition, specially for a B-splatterfest, deserves a higher rating hence the 7, instead of a 5! Oh and terrible OST :D
I managed to get through all of this film on the second attempt when I knew I was less likely to fall asleep or get so frustrated I would watch something else. The film is just incredibly tedious and boring to watch. The story just doesn't hold one's attention long enough to feel any connection to the characters whatsoever. The characters themselves are one- dimensional cardboard cutouts that move around on the screen. There is acting talent in the cast but it doesn't come through in this stylised movie. It is very rare that it takes me two attempts to get through a film - even the really bad ones. Not that this is a badly made film - it just has nothing going for it.How on this earth it cost $17 million to make I will never know.
